I'm looking for any information, please, regarding the father of John Thomas Machin, my great-great-grandfather. John was (approximately) two years old when his father Samuel, a bricklayer, died of a broken neck after falling from a scaffolding. I don't know Samuel's date of birth, or his wife's name, although I do know she later remarried and had further children with her second husband; John, however, was Samuel's only child. Any information you may have about Samuel Machin, who died either in 1844 or 1845, would be extremely helpful.

I am looking for my great grandfather Herbert Bingham who emigrated from England to Australia on the SS Port Victor in 1886 aged 22, arriving here on 8 July 1886. He travelled with Emily Race aged 16 from Salford whom he married in 1887. I have found a Herbert Bingham born March, 1863 in Newark and another born June, 1863 in Southwell. If he is the latter he possibly turned 23 on the voyage over. I would also love to find descendants of family he left behind.

I am searching for information on John and Harriet (nee Kirk) Harrison (married Sept. 1887). They lived in Southwell at 4 Watts Yard, King Street. She was a dressmaker, possibly owned a candy store. By the 1901 census, John was no longer in the household. We believe he died but we have no record. Children were Edward Kirk, Jane, Elizabeth, Constance and Annie. Annie was my great grandmother.

I am tracing details of the family that lived at Brackenhurst Hall in the early 1800s. My gt gt gt gt gt Maternal Gradnmother lived there (her name was Jane Richmond), I have a copy of the postcard of the Hall which my gt gt gt grandfather wrote details of Jane Richmond's alleged elopement with the stable groom! He was her son. Jane married Thomas Proctor in the 1820s, he may or may not be the stable groom! If you ahve any details I would greatly appreciate some help!! Even just info on the Hall would be great all i can find onthe net is that it's a college now.

Francis Townrow and wife Hannah nee Stokes were tailors/milliners in Southwell 1841, 1851 and moved to St Werburgh, Derby by 1861, attracting Poor Law aid from Southwell. Lived to their 80's!! They had daughter Charlotte Paling, later known as Charlotte Brown, in 1822 in Southwell, who married Samuel Paling, son of John Paling (gamekeeper). They split up and Charlotte moved to Scarborough, changing her name to Brown, with youngest two, Frank (Francis Stenton Paling Browne born 1854 who married and settled in Pocklington having a large family before dying prematurely before the last was born), and Emma, later to be joined by daughter Charlotte as below. Children of Sam and Charlotte snr: (1) Eliza Stanton Paling 1850 who married George William Gale of Boston Lincs, barber::(2)Charlotte Annie Paling who married John Wilcox and had (a)Theodore Willcox (who married and had sons Alfred Theodore Wilcox, Frederick Wilcox, Walter Wilcox and Arthur Wilcox) (b) Florence Gertrude Wilcox who later became known as Florence Gertrude Flack, (c) Gertrude Wilcox Rotherhithe, and then lived with, and later married the lodger, Henry George Flack or George Henry Flack (variously!) at Scarborough, and had Henry Flack jnr.:: (3) Frank S Paling later Frank S Brown, as above (4) Emma Julia Paling as Julia S Paling in 1861, Julia S Browne in 1871, Emma J Brown in 1881!!!! She married Andrew Marland in Scarborough in 1882, and lived in Ashton under Lyne with three daughters (See Marland AUL) ::(5)John Stokes Paling who disappeared! Emma Paling was married in the name of Emma Julia Stanton Paling Browne!!! So,anyone interested in this family, do please contact me. Thanks for reading this far!
