My family tree includes the Newcastle - Gateshead boat owner Robert Wilkinson 1800 - 53. Tracing his origin in the Discovery Museum Archives, I discovered that his parents were Robert Wilkinson b c 1771 of Ovingham and Jane Stobbart b.c 1771 of Bywell. I found a Henry Stobbart gravestone dating from 1757 in Bywell St Peter churchyard. No sign of Robert Wilkinson from Ovingham (although I did find in IGI records George Wilkinson b 1772 from Ovingham, possibly his brother). I left a note in Ovingham Church - no replies yet. Does anyone know of this family - anyone with the surname Wilkinson ? - there are Wilkinsons in Wylam, Stamfordham and Corbridge can anyone link back to 1771?
