ALFRED READ b.1850 Wicklewood
Alfred was son of James Read b.1811 and Frances Halliday, but there is some confusion as to his date of death, which may have been Henstead 1937
READ/HURRET/HOLIDAY
Thank you everyone who have helped me follow the Reads from Middlesex, Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk. Henry Read b.1873, gamekeeper, lived in a railway carriage near Rattle Row, of which we still have the photograph. Jonas Read b.1778 Cratfield, Suffolk lived at Paste House, Wicklewood in 1841. We wonder whether this refers to a plastered building or perhaps pastry house, a bakery. Any ideas would be welcome.
red mail Quandry re Quantrill/ell
I am trying to follow the history of the Quantrill/ell family from Norfolk. I have father Richard (dob 13.7.1837 Wicklewood) and mother Martha Ann (Q2 1846 Wicklewood) nee Heron. Amongst 14 children they had a son James. I believe he was born c1864 By 1867 the family were living in London, mainly Hackney. In 1881 I find 2 options for James a, James Q age 19 born Norwich, resident St Pancras, a trooper with 2nd Regiment Life Guards b, James Q age 19 a houseboy at a school, address 7, Highgate Road In 1891 I find only 1 option James age 30 born Norwich, a Corporal, address St Margaret & St John the Evangelist, Westminster In 1901 I find only 1 option James age 38 born Norwich, an army pensioner, married to Ellen, age 23, from Holyport,Berks. Address Ilford, Essex By 1911 there are again 2 options a, James Q age 45 born Lakenham, Norfolk An army pensioner employed as HM Customs watcher married to Ellen,32 with children Lily Evelyn,8, & Frederick Stanley,4 Address Bristol b, James Q age 46 born Norfolk An army pensioner employed as military clerk married to Eliza Mary Ann,42 with children Millicent Florence,15, & Harry Norman, 14 Address Brentwood, Essex If anyone is researching the Q family perhaps they can identify which James is the son of Richard & Martha. Many thanks for taking the time to read all this. Hope you can help me.
