red mail Ross Drownings 1861
My Gt-Gt Grandfather, James Ross, (husband of Ann Small) was drowned in October 1861, when his ship the 'Jane and Mary' broke up in Spey Bay during a gale. I have a copy of the death registration, but it doesn't give his age, his parentage, or even his wifes name! Unconfirmed reports mention that his father and an uncle were also drowned the same day, but were on different ships. I believe his father's name was John Ross, and the naming pattern of James's family seems to confirm this, but others reckon the father's name was also James. Any information will be appreciated.

red mail Riach in Lossiemouth
I'm looking for info about John Riach's Vintner in Lossiemouth. Who was John Riach? Jane Thomson was living at John Riach's Vintner in 1828 when she married William Ross. Jane (or perhaps Jannet) Thomson was born in Rothes about 1798-1800. I believe Jane's mother was Beatrix Riach who was also from Rothes. Does anyone have any more information about the Riach family or any information about the people mentioned above? There was a tombstone in Keneddar Cemetery for William Ross and his wife Jane Thomson which I saw about 35 years ago. I'll be happy to share what information I have on the Ross and Thomson families. Thanks, Bill

George Stewart
Hello : We are decendants of George Stewart (born 25.04.1887 in Lossiemouth died 25.04.1927? in Townsville Queensland Australia) son of William Stewart and Isabella Stewart (nee Smith) who lived at 40 Commerce Street Lossiemouth. Until recently we thought that George had only one older brother Robert who we understand died from Appendicitis in the United States in the late 1920s or early 1930s. However we have now discovered from the 1891 Census that there were in fact at least 6 children : William 16, Isabella 12, John 14, Annie 9, Robert 7, and George 3. Also from a Headstone in Lossiemouth Cemetary we have learnt that there was also an infant James who was born just after the census and died aged 5 months and Isabella also died soon after the Census at age 14. We are interested to hear from any decendants of George's remaining brothers and sisters. Regards Rob.
