red mail John & Mary Morris living at Dolarddyn - (Castle Caereinion, Castell Caereinion - Montgomeryshire)
From the 1911 Census, their marriage is calculated to be around 1866 but I have not been able to find any record of their marriage. I am interested in Mary's maiden name. From the 1911 Census, their birthplaces were listed as Castle Caereinion, although earlier Censuses showed John Morris's birthplace as Llanfair (presumably Llanfair Caereinion). They had 7 children of whom 5 survived. I have records of the baptism dates of three of the children: Thomas - 25/02/1868; Mary - 13/11/1870; John - 04/05/1873. All these were taken from the parish registers at Powys Archives. However, I could find no records for Ellen or Eliza Morris, the eldest and youngest, respectively, of the surviving children. Ellen is my great grandmother and is someone I knew as a young child. She died in 1953. Her age was recorded as 91 when she died. This would indicate that she was born around 1862, which was c 4 years before the calculated date of her parents' marriage. Ellen went into service just outside Stafford before marrying my great grandfather, Christopher Sproston. John and Mary Morris moved from Dolarddyn to near Market Drayton on the Staffordshire/Shropshire border, where John continued as an agricultural labourer. They finally moved in with Christopher and Ellen Sproston at Little Haywood, near Stafford, where they both died.
