My Great Grandfather George James was born in Rhiwderin - his occupation was Steel Worker (I believe he worked at the Tin Works) - he had a brother John James also living with the family and in the 1901 Census we have detail of George living at Vulcan Cottages Rhiwderin with his family. George was married to Elizabeth Jones from Llangunnor. Their children were Mary Elizabeth James - (married Tom Parkes and went to live in California) John James - died in WW1 - Charles James, Catherine James (died age 9) and Hannah born after the census was taken. Also living with them was brother John James born in Usk - he is said to have died in a Haystack fire. Anyone having knowledge of George/John James father John James - Hurdle Maker Master, (mothers name not known at this point) or any other siblings - please contact. The family moved to Newport and finally lived in Aylesbury St where youngest son Thomas was born.

I'm trying to find any information about Rosemary, oldest daughter of Sir Leolin Charles Forestier Walker and Alice (n.Blandy-Jenkins), and sister to Daphne. According to the 1901 Census they lived in Park House, variously of Michaelstone-y-Yedw, Craig, Machen, Rhiwderin and were there at least until 1934. Rosemary was born in Bassaleg in August 1898, married John Griffiths in July 1925 and died in St Winifreds Hospital Cardiff in 1958. In 1911 the family had 6 servants - Mary Jane, Hannah and Elizabeth Baker, Frederick Robinson, Frank Coates, Beatrice Smith and Grace Dobedoe(?) Rosemary Forestier Walker had an illegitimate son - my father - on 29 December 1921 at Hillcrest Winterbourne; Annie Johns was present at the birth. The baby was given away. I'm trying to trace my father's father. Can anyone help?

I am researching my Family Tree and am anxious for any information on Thomas Morgans. He was born in 1873 and married Rachel Prothero in July 1898. They had 4 children - Emily who died when she was 1yr old. Elizabeth (Lizzie) Morgan and Ivor. Thomas's wife died in 1912 after the bith of Ivor and the children were sent to live with Thomas's brother James who had Ivor, Jane took Lizzie and Morgan. We have been told that Thomas died in a mining accident but we can find no trace of his death in the Sirhowy/Tredegar area. I have found one death of a Thomas Morgans aged 40 in 1914 at Merthyr Tidfil. If anyone has any information about this family I would be pleased to hear from you.

I am trying to make contact with anyone, whose ancestors ( probably Surname JONES ) were Farmers in St.Mellons, around about 1900....1940. The name of the Farm, where my Grandmother ( Mary Elizabeth JONES ) was one of the daughters, was PYLLE DU. I am not sure I have the name correctly spelled, but the pronounciation , for an English speaker was :- Pill Dee ( which would probably make a Welsh speaker cry ! There were other farms, which were in the Jones and related families, I can only re-call them by their (phonetic ) names,NOT the correct spelling in Welsh ! :- Maes yr Hedydd, the Vaindre, Lisvaine,Tyn a Phunnon,. If you are related to anyone who was owner/worker on any of those farms, between 1900 and say, 1945 , I would love to hear from you!

Thomas Harding was born in Usk Monmouthshire c.1815 & became a Wesleyan minister. Probably married Mary Anne Watkins in 1841 in Abergavenny district. His son Thomas Olver Harding became a Cambridge scholar, mathematician and barrister at law. From family lore, it is conjectured the older Thomas may have been the son of John Harding (occupation excise officer) and Ann (nee Bunt)married at Wyke Regis, Dorset in 1811(details from the Australian death certificate of their first child Anne, later Tucker.) Interested in any details of either the excise service in Usk or the Harding family.

I am trying to find out information regarding my ancestor John Jones who was working at Varteg Hill as labourer in October 1840. He was married to Pheobe nee Jones on 17 April 1824 in Trevethin and was mentioned in the 1841 Census as being born out of county. John and Pheobe had a son Daniel born 1825, Thomas born 1830, Evan 1831, John 1833, William 1836 Henry 1836 Mary 1839 and Eleanor September 1840. I know that Pheobe was born in Cilgerran Pembrokeshire. I have not discovered baptisms of any of the children. They had moved out of Varteg by the 1841 Census - his age was rounded to 50. Pheobe was a widow by 1851 census. I am trying to establish where John Jones originated from and to get more detail.
