During WW2 I was evacuated to Abercarn, my Grandmother Ada, lived with a chap called Fred Davies, they lived right opposite, the bakery which at that time was literally on the canal, just alittle down the road from the New Inn My grandmother had a brother William Smith who with his wife were the managers of the pub. My grandmother was very friendly with them and I can rember calling them Uncle Will and Aunty Eunice. My grandmother and her brother were born in SE London Does any one have a memory or knowledge of this place or people.

I have found my Great Grandfater Robert Roberts who was Station Master at Abercarn. His son Brinley was my Grandfather, he became a Teacher and Mayor of Cowbridge and father to my father John Victor Raymond Roberts and Irene Roberts. I cannot find Brinley's sister Edith, I don't remember my father mentioning his Aunt and I would really love some information. She was born in 1871 and possibly married a William Griffits of Merthyr Tydfil. Ione

I am looking for any information on Alice Emma Yates who was living in Abercarn, Monmouthshire in 1901 census. She was originally born 1890 in Southwark, Surrey - to parents Alice Louisa and James Yates. Alice Louisa Yates went on to marry Edwin Thorne in the late 1890's. If anyone has information on Alice Emma Yates, I would greatly appreciate it as she is my great-grandfather's half sister.

George Cooper and family lived at 2 Grove Street, Abercarn around the time of the 1891 Census. Wife Mary appears to have had the maiden name ANDO and to have been born in Brynmawr in 1854. Any information regarding the Cooper family - or Ando - would be much appreciated. Greg

I am looking for any information on a Thomas Prichard b.1795 - d.1823 who lived at Cnwc (Gnoc) Farm. The farm was situated above what is now the Cwmcarn Forest Drive Tourist Centre. Thomas was married to Joan Thomas in 1819 and had two sons Edward and Thomas.
