red mail Helen MCNEILL born 1909 Currie
Helen's father was William MCNEILL born 1868, also in Currie. Her mother was Elizabeth Kathleen PILKINGTON and she died in 1912 when Helen was only three years old. Helen was the youngest of five children. I believe that William was a chemist in a paper mill. Helen married Mr. J.G. SAUNDERS in Sevenoaks in 1932. Where was she between 1912 and 1932 and did William marry again? Who brought her and the other children up? I have traced detail on all Helen's siblings, but can find nothing about her father. Helen and I remained in letter contact until the 1980s and she died in 1989 in Chalfont St. Giles, Buckinghamshire. We were related by marriage, in that my grandmother's sister married Daniel McNeill, brother of the William McNeill mentioned earlier. I would be very grateful for any information you are able to pass on to me, so that I may, in turn, be able to pass it on to Helen's family. Thank you. Belinda

red mail Forrester Help Needed
I am trying to make a connection to Forrester's in Midlothian. I am researching the line of Forrester, Forster and Foster which end up in the New World circa 1670ish, possibly earlier and end up in Orange County NC in 1752. There is much confusion on the line I am researching however I am aided by DNA which places the specific line somewhere in Midlothian and closer to the Foster's than the Corstorphine Forresters. The last names of the sequence are James Forrester Sr., b 1694 m to Anne Ashley and there is some speculation that his father is Francis, William or Robert or a combination of two of those names together, and they have to be married to either an Ann or Jane as James Sr's first son is named William and first daughter is Jane. Samuel married to Allison Thomson is often reported as his father but it just is not adding up for a number of reasons. He signs the parish registry in Edinburgh as late as Sept 1694. Any assistance that someone can shed over there is greatly appreciated as I have poured over many records, calenders and registry's. One parish registry apologized for "the gap" and not recording the information due to the fact " that the English Army" was roaming about. I believe that was in the town of Tranent. There could be an Irish connection -the Germanic/Norman/Celtic connection is ancient and confirmed but there could be a more recent 1620 give or take a hundred years or so Irish connection. There is a possibility that they were "border reivers". I have heard many different reasons for leaving Scotland. Political, conflicts with other clans, no water, no choice and becoming plantation owners and /or just in the business of shipping. All I really need is the "missing link" and the rest is history :-). If anyone can help at all I am listening.

red mail Simpson+Inglis
My great great great grandparents John Simpson born 1791 and Margaret Inglis born 1790, were married in Midlothian in May 1827 I think. Yet their daughter Margaret Simpson was born 11 January 1825. Was she born before their marriage or could there be a misprint somewhere? Maybe the marriage date is wrong cause that would make them in the 30's and people usually got married quite young in those days.

red mail William Clark, Midlothian c1801
WILLIAM CLARK Born in Midlothian Scotland c1801 Can someone please help. I am trying to locate the Birth certificate details from the old parish registers for my Great, Great, Great, Grandfather William Clark***. According to his Death Certificate he would have been born around 1801. (Died aged 74 in 1875) He was married to Jean/Jane Ainslie in Carrington Midlothian on the 20th May 1831 and they said their vows again in the parish of Liberton the following day as was the custom. The had a son called William who was born at Cockpen on the 25th of March in 1832 His Father was also William Clark. His mother is described as Catherine Maiden Surname BEGBIE. First of all it is difficult to read her name Catherine,Cathrine? and if it is Begbie? I also have a copy of the 1861 cencus that states that William is 59 and was born in NEWBATTLE Midlothian Scotand. Now here is the problem, There was only ONE William Clark*** born in Newbattle in 1801 (+- 2years) to a WILLIAM Clark and a Maiden Surname BEGBIE, but the christian name is HELEN Not Catherine BEGBIE. Is there any likelyhood I am missing somtheing or could it be that her name was Catherine-Helen-BEGBIE? One name on his birth certificate and another on his death certificate? Any ideas please?? I have images of various birth, marriage, death certificates I can provide if it helps. Thank-you, John.
