My gr.gr.gr.grandmother Christian SCOTT was born in ca. 1813 in Roxburghshire. Different documents list Bowden, Lilliesleaf and Galashiels as her birth place and I am still trying to find a record of her birth. Her father was James SCOTT, a farmer in Easter Langlee. In June 1813 Christina SCOTT from Langlee married Robert BLAIR from Darnick in Galashiels. Robert BLAIR was born in in 1813 Hawick and was a wool dyer by trade. Robert BLAIR died in 1857 in Edinburgh suddenly from a tetanus infection. Around 1858 John Harvey BLAIR, a baker, married Jane HUTCHISON in Edinburgh. In 1861 John Harvey BLAIR his wife Jane and their 2 year old son John live at 33 East Crosscauseway, Edinburgh. Jane's sister Elizabeth Hutchison HEALEY owned a bakery at 1 West Crosscauseway. Elizabeth's late husband Alexander HEALEY had established the bakery at 1 West Crosscauseway prior to the 1851 Census and it seems that John H BLAIR managed it for his sister-in-law in 1861. Jane HUTCHISON died just after the 1861 Census. John was 22 years old, a widower with a 2 year old son. In 1864 John H BLAIR left his young son with his mother Christina Scott BLAIR and emigrated to Dunedin, NZ. John Harvey BLAIR remarried in Dunedin in March 1865. His second wife was Jemima GUNN, born 1840 in Latheron, Caithness, second daughter of Benjamin GUNN and Elizabeth McLACHLAN from Wick. John Harvey BLAIR (1839 - 1918 Wellington, NZ) and Jemima GUNN (1840 - 1917 Takapau, NZ) had 7 sons and 3 daughters. Their first 8 children were all born in Caversham, Dunedin between 1865 - 1878, the last two sons where born in West Clive, Hawkes Bay, NZ. In 1871 Christina Scott BLAIR and her 11 year old grandson John sailed to Dunedin on the William Davie. John BLAIR jun. died unmarried in Caversham, Dunedin in June 1887. Christina Scott BLAIR died in West Clive, Hawkes Bay, NZ in June 1878 aged 65 years. John's younger brother James Scott BLAIR died from typhoid fever in Gisborne, NZ in 1901.

red mail GUTHRIE
i am looking for information/descendants on/of William Robertson Guthrie. said to be born in Edinburgh abt 1888.....we were told his D.O.B. was 5th march.....he served in the navy, sometime in the early 1900's....i have a picture of him in his uniform. The name of ths ship he served on was the HMS Shannon. The HMS Shannon served at the Battle of Jutland....i cannot find a list of crew for this ship, but i do know it was an armoured cruiser and it was commissioned in 1905....put into service in 1908 at Chatham, Kent, and decomissioned and sold for scrap in 1922. There is a story that he jumped ship, how true? i dont know. William married Mary Bisop nee Austin in 1935, they were living at 81 Campbell Rd, Islington, London. They actually got together in 1922, and had a few kids before they were married and a few more after. Their only son was born in 1926, at 79, Campbell rd, Islington. I was told he was married before he married Mary, and had a couple of sons to his first marriage, but i dont know how true this is. I have no details on the first wife, but was told the 2 sons were called Billy and Bobby, one was blind, and both boys emigrated to New Zealand, with their mother when they were small. After leaving the navy William had his own business as a steeple jack. He names his father as James Guthrie, steeple jack, on his marriage certificate. I would appreciate any info that anyone could possibly have or find.

red mail Andrew STEWART b. Edinburgh 1816?
My great-great-grandfather was Andrew Stewart, recorded on English census and registration documents as Andrew Lothian Stewart born in Edinburgh, probably the son of Donald Stewart, causey-layer. Andrew apparently worked on the canals in France for some time, and I know little of him until he appears in the mid-1800's in Hillmorton near Rugby, as an engineer again involved with canal work. I haven't been able to find an Andrew Lothian Stewart in Edinburgh births, or any really strong possible links with Scotland. Can anyone help?
