Trying to trace my wife's great-grandfather, a Master Mariner who originated from Stepney, born +/- 1 year 1834. He married a Margaret White in December 1861 in(or at) St Dunstans, Stepney, both persons were apparently living in Stepney at the time of marriage. Served on the P&O ship 'Himalaya' before or during the Crimean War, so 1854 or after thereabouts. His father was a James Sinclair, also a Master Mariner. Any details of his birth and mother would be gratefully received.

I'm looking for information on Ann (Annie) Bentley/Willis nee Deery from New Gravel Lane, Stepney. born circa 1861. Annie married a Joshua Bentley in 1882, Whitechapel and had 3 children, then Joshua died somewhere between their youngest childs conception (1889) & her re-marriage in 1894, to an Edwin Willis, (my G,G,Grandfather). Apparently Joshua was a tugboatman on the Thames & died when he fell overboard & drowned, or so family folklore tells... Any information on Joshua & Annie's birth, marriage or death would be appreciated..

I am looking to find any information on James Taylor c 1817 at Boldre, Lymington son of William Taylor and Mary Beaumont. James married Sophia Buckett abt 1835 and remarried Mary Cox in 1845. The family disappears before the 1861 census. Daughter Fanny married Richard Taylor at Brighton, Sussex and emigrated to New Zealand. Any information would be very much appreciated.

Elizabeth Russell christened at St Mary's Whitechapel, Stepney in 1816, daughter of William RUSSELL. She married William BLANSHARD in 1842. There were a lot of her family christened at St Mary's from 1808 to 1823. Hi all New to this site! I am trying to research back as far as I can my family who were from Middlesex. They were the Newmans (Samuel who married a Charlotte Susan Lickfold, and their ancestors. Anyone else researching them? The furthest back I can get is to Samuel Josephs grandfather, who was a Joseph Newman but I don't have DOB for him. His son was another Samuel. We know that Matthew Surguy was a licensed victualler in Lower East Smithfield circa 1800 and died in 1813 he had 4 children by Harriet Kavanagh baptised Surguy but they were not married. Another branch of the family were in the undertaking businessin Pennington Street then Sutton Street.We believe there is a connection with the Channel Islands.the first male born by tradition seem to be baptised Thomas Matthew.Pleased to hear from any contacts out there !

I am looking for the Father of Peter(Pierre)MATHERON who was born in Stepney about 1828 could have been earlier. His Fathers name is ETIENNE MATHERON born about late 1700 to early 1800. The first place name I have is Spitalfields in London which may mean they had to leave France very quickly as Protestants. This family moved around a lot and districts range from Highwych, Herts to Edmonton, Epping, Bishops Stortford and Stepney, also city of London. Rather a large family and all related in this country. I am trying to trace when and where they lived in France and when they left France. Any info gratefully received and will supply info in exchange.

Thomas George Lane and family.Thomas may have lived in Ratcliffe with his father George,a licenced victualler,and his mother,Sarah(Brown) up until he married Maria Moss in the 1840's. Both George and Maria had an adult baptism at St.Dunstan's churchin 1852 before emigrating to Australia with their 3 children, Rebecca,Adelaide and George. The address they gave was 53 Gloucester Street, Stepney. Maria's father was also named George and her mother was Rachel Davis.

I'm trying to trace a Richard Eldridge and his wife Martha Nash. (maybe Baines-think this would be a 2nd marriage as her name was Nash when son George married but Baines when he died. Richard was a customs officer and his son George William Eldridgewas born at Stepney in 1833. The family was in Amlwch Anglesey before this. Georges brother Daniel was born there. Daniel married an Eliza Holmes at St Matthews Bethnal Green in 1857. I have family history from currant day to here but Richard and Martha are a mystery that is slowly driving me insane. William Harvey b. abt. 1792 (His age given in the 1851 census was 59) his occupation was 'Docks Cooper'. He married a lady named Sarah, from Wales. At about the time of their marriage, two other William Harvey's also married ladies named Sarah. OneSarah Skerritt, one Sarah Howitt and one Sarah Harvey. The question I have been asking for at least 7 years is, 'Whitch one is the Welsh Lady?' I will know our William when I find her!

After travelling through Palestine, he explored Shoa and Gojam, Abyssinia, returning via Massowa, and received in 1846 a gold medal for his travels in Abyssinia. From 1847-1860 he published a series of works on the languages of Abyssinia and the sources of the Nile. He made a second expedition to Bible lands, and wrote several books on Bible geography.

George was a Miller by trade. Their son Henry HALL married: ElizabethMary ARTHUR on the 27th DEC 1841 at St. Leonard, Shoreditch, Middlesex, England. Elizabeth Mary ARTHUR was the daughter of a William ARTHUR who was a Baker by trade. William's father is supposed to have been an Alexander ARTHUR B. about 1773 in Scotland. Alexander is also supposed to have been a Chelsea Pensioner, but I haven't found proof of that.
