I am looking for GENT, SHELDRAKE and PRUDENCE ancestors in Limehouse, c1830-c1920. My great-grandfather, William GENT, ran the Three Mariners pub at 34 Ropemakers Fields, c1893-c1900. Any info on them, the pub or the street would be gratefully received.

I am researching the Errick and Mary Ann (nee Francis) Sampson family who in the 1861 census were living at 30 Northey Street St Ann Limehouse Tower Hamlets. Errick was born at Deptford about 1834 and married Mary Ann in 1855. At the time of the census they had three children, Alfred 4, Henry 2 and Francis 9 months. He was a ladies bootmaker. On 11 Feb 1939 In the River Thames near Dundee Wharf, Limehouse the body of Henry SHEPHERD 61 yrs Dock Labourer of no fixed abode was found. Henry was my paternal Grandfather. He married my grandmother Ellen (Nellie) SULLIVAN on 1/6/1903 in Poplar and they had three children Nellie, Henry and Dennis (my Dad). By 1911 the parents had separated and the children were sent to Hutton Poplars School in Brentwood Essex to be educated and cared for. I know nothing about Henry whose father was also called Henry so am unable to trace my paternal ancestry. Does anyone have a Henry who drowned in the Thames? Did he have another family somewhere? Would love to fill in some of the blanks in my family tree. Please help!

I am looking for information on the Vincent family who lived in Copenhagen Place, Limehouse. My ancestor Eliza nee Holmes married James Vincent in 1862 in Hackney and had 2 children James and Eliza. After James' death, Eliza married Henry Rose. For some reason her daughter Eliza also took the name Rose as a surname.
Kimble Family in Limehouse and/or nearby in 1861 onwards.
John and Mary Kimble and Family lived at 45 Limehouse Causeway and by trade he was a House Carpenter.Mary had died by 1871 because John, a widower, is now living and working in Jarrow.Believe some of the family continued living around the area. Son Arthur was a plumber and gas fitter in Poplar and eldest daughter Catherine spent periods of time in the Stepney Union Workhouse. Another son John was a cooper and maybe also have remained in the area. Other siblings whereabouts unknown were Susanna, Elizabeth, Walter, Charles, Robert and Roseanna.

Would anyone happen to have a photo of Spencer Street, Limehouse please? It isn't there anymore and I don't know whether it was one of those streets lost in the London Blitz, or demolished later on.

In the 1901 census James is said to have been born in London Limehouse c1859, but in the census of 1891 he is said to have been born in Southampton Hampshire c 1860. I have had different ancestral families living in and working in Limehouse. the Lloyds had a tin plate works on the Lea Navigation, and shipped goods from there for their company A.Lloyd and sons; the Oppermans lived there in carpentry shops, or as valuers. The Parmenters maybe of Jewish -Dutch extraction, married into that line, with the marriage of daughter Semira. Any links to these families?

Does anyone have any details on the Grinyer family? Catherine Jane Grinyer was born circ. 1844 and in 1866 she married Leonhard Siebert. The marriage was witnessed by Sarah Harriet Grinyer and her father was James Wilson Nelson Grinyer. They seem to have connections to Mile End Old Town, Bow, Limehouse and Bromley.

I am looking for any information on Edward and Nellie (Ellen) Earle who lived at 13 Anchor Street, Limehouse, Tower Hamlets. They would have been a young couple aged 23 with 2 children also named Nellie or Ellen and Edward who were aged 2 and 1 respectfully on the 1891 census. Edward was a general labourer. Even if someone knows some history of this location in London, it would be appreciated. Their daughter, Nellie Earle came to Canada prior to 1912 where she met and married my grandfather, Archibald Winsor. I would like to know when Nellie Earle came to Canada and with whom. Hi, I am seeking information on Edward and Ellen (Nellie) Earle. Their daughter, Ellen (Nellie) was my maternal grandmother. On the 1891 UK census they were found living at 3 Anchor Street, Limehouse. My grandmother, at some point, left for Canada and I am not sure if any of her family came with her. Her father, Edward Earle was a general laborer. An uncle lived with them as well in place where they occupied only 3 rooms.
