I am looking for Information on my 2 half brothers KEVIN LURTON and KERRY LURTON who were adopted in Enfield in 1956 and 1957. In 1966 my mum and dad emigrated from England to Australia with four daughters. Three years ago after my dear mum passed away, my sisters and I were informed that we had two older half brothers. We have no idea who their father(s) were but we do know that they were both born at Chase Farm Hospital in Enfield Middlesex UK in the 50's The eldest was registered as Kevin Charles Lurton and was born on the 22nd January 1956 and the second son was Kerry Charles Lurton born the 20th March 1957. I am of the understanding that the first boy was privately adopted through our family "Dr Jones" and the surname "Hedges" was mentioned by my father. The second adoption could have been through the hospital. They could have resided in the Waltham Cross or Walthamstow area later in life Any help with any sort of information would be truly appreciated. Thank you Davina

Hello, I'm really hoping that someone will be able to help with information about my 4 x great grandmother. She was called Sophia HOY (1786 - 1820) and was christened in St. Andrew's, Enfield on 26 June 1785. Her parents are recorded as William and Mary HOY and she had a sister called Abigail (1782 - ); I also believe that she had a brother, possibly also called William. She married George HAMPTON in St. Leonard's in Shoreditch in 1812 and had 3 children. She died in 1820 and was buried in Enfield. Approximately 1 year later, George married her sister Abigail in Edmonton. I would really appreciate any information about her parents, William and Mary, as I have not been able to find a marriage entry or any other information for them. Many thanks and thank you for taking the time to read this entry.

She was widowed in the 1871 census but then had 5 more children in the 1881 census all born in Clapham Surrey. My grandfather Richard was born in 1883.They all appear on the 1881 and the 1891 census with the name of Robinson Matthams , but their surnames on the 1901 census and their marriage certificates are Robinson.

red mail Amey family
I am researching the Wright family of Hertfordshire and later in Enfield and Edmonton in Middlesex.Joshua Wright married Mary Byham (I have had no luck tracing any aspect of this ladys family)in 1802 Bengeo Herts.Their first child Joshua Wright was born in 1803 Bengeo Herts. This particular Joshua went on to marry Susannah Amy Shephard in 1822 in St Leonards, Shoreditch London. This couple go on to have 10 children- Charlotte Amia, Joshua George, Elizabeth, Charlotte, Thomas, James, Joseph, William, John and Daniel. I think Susannah died in 1845.I am suspicious that Susannah's middle name is a surname-Amey. In some of the baptism entries for their children her name is spelt this way. Their first child a daughter Charlotte also has a middle name 'Amia' which is unusual. I appreciate spelling was not standardised but I thought it was worth a try. Shephard has many variants so I am trying to get round that 'road block' by exploring 'Amey'. What makes me inclined to try this tack is that, in 1834-1844 the is a court case where a George Blair and a Joshua Wright were accused of stealing a watch from Fredrick Amey, landlord of the Red Lion, public house in Enfield. Both were found not guilty. Do you have any connections to Fredrick? Was there a Shephard- Amey marriage? Any comments appreciated.

Anton Jorgensen - Nurseryman
Hello, my grandfather, Anton Jorgensen, lived in Enfield from c1914-1967. He worked as a nurseryman. I'm trying to find out which nursery/ies he worked for, and, as he was Danish, think that he may have worked for another Scandinavian here. According to local history, there was a Hans Ole Larsen who owned a nursery at Waltham Abbey and a Hans Viggo Larsen who co-owned the Roebuck Nursery in Hertford Road, Enfield with a Mr Douthwaite. Hans Viggo Larsen lived at Oakfield House in Green Street. There was also a nurseryman named Jacob Nielson in Riley Road, Enfield, and a Carl Rasmussen at "Oatlands", Carterhatch Road. Does anyone have any information on these people or their nurseries? Perhaps someone can direct me to another source of information about the nursery industry in Enfield. Many thanks.

red mail Louisa Francis / Joshua Geo Wright
I am researching Joshua and his family. I have found a marriage for Joshua George Wright 10 July1843, Saint Andrews Church, Enfield, Middlesex England. Certainly the Joshua George I am researching was living in Turkey Street Enfield in the 1841. I do know he married Emma Perry prior to travelling to live in New Zealand in 1857. By that date he would have been 32 years old. As he would be about 18 years old in 1843, this seems reasonable enough that his first marriage was to Louisa Francis and it could well be our Joshua George Wright. I have found a William Francis and his family in the 1841 census. William was a Hay Carter in Cheshunt. In 1851 the Francis family is in the village of Turnford, parish of Cheshunt. This is interesting as there is a daughter called Louisa Wright in the group and William Francis (head) is described as “ farmer, hay carter, 20 acres and 3 men”. One of these three men listed is Thomas Wright who is aged 20 (a match for the Thomas Wright's age - sibling of Joshua George Wright). Thomas's birthplace is also listed as Enfield Middlesex. In the 1851 census Joshua George Wright appears to be in Hatfield. There is also a similarity in occupation as Joshua George’s father ( also Joshua) was a straw carter. Can anyone help me solve this mystery? What happened to Louisa?
