red mail Charles Adney (Adeney) or John Charles Adney (Adeney)
I am searching for information regarding the father of Thomas Adney who was born about 1740 on King's Square (Soho Square)in Clerkenwell Parish, Middlesex Co. Thomas was known to have come to America about 1759-1760. It is believed that "Charles" or "John Charles", Thomas's father, was born in Rowton and married an Ann Hudson. "Charles" supposedly had a farm between Clerkenwell and Islington where he also raised livestock; he reportedly was a ship builder as well as a farmer. The story has been told that he was robbed and murdered on his way home to Clerkenwell from the Angel(Angell)Inn near or in Islington by an old college mate; he may have died 28 August 1771. Unfortunately, for all of the stories that have been passed down, I am finding no strong factual data (historical records, court records, etc.) regarding the origin or existence of this family. Any thread of information would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for Browns and Smiths....
I have some gaps in my family tree that I am struggling to fill. My great grandmother was born Ann(ie) Weyman in 1855. In 1873 she married John Middleton Brown in Bethnal Green and they had at least 2 children, my grandmother Florence Maud and her brother Harry. They lived then at Nile Street Hoxton. John Middleton Brown died on 14.1.1887 when their address was 12 Brewer Street North. the. At the 1891 census Annie was living with William Smith an upholsterer, aged 31, born London City, and Florence, Harry, and William their month old son, also William Smith, at 17 Brewer Street Clerkenwell. The family then moved nearby to 28 Buxton Buildings Buxton Street. Florence and Harry were married from there. Annie and William were still living in Buxton Buildings when Annie died at the age of aged 86 in October 1940 in the bombing of Lady Alice Owens school. (I learnt about this tragic event with the help of a Curious Fox Member for which I am very grateful). I believe that both her husband William Smithand their son William were both still living at that time. I cannot find any record of Annies second marriag or the birth of William, although I have recently found that William Junior married Alice Bingle in 1921 and that they had at least 2 children named William Albert, and Alice. They lived in Great Percy Street befoe moving to hOLLOWAY. Does anyone have any of them in their family tree?

red mail John Smith... Watchmaker
I am seeking information about my great-great-great-grandfather, John Smith. He was born in Clerkenwell c.1822 according to the 1871/81/91 censuses. He lived at 11 Rectory Place, Woolwich in each of those three years, but wasn't there prior to that. In 1871 & 1881 he is shown as married to Mary, but his daughter (Elizabeth Glover b.c.1843) was born when Mary was about 13 years old, so it seems likely that Mary was John's second wife. In each of the three census entries and on Elizabeth's marriage certificate (22/10/1865, The Parish Church, Lee - to William James Glover), John's occupation is given as "Watchmaker". John is listed as a widower on the 1891 census, and (so far) I have been unable to locate him on the 1901 census So I assume he died between 1891 and 1901. I have also failed to find him on the 1861 (or earlier) census. If any of the above matches your tree or if you can help in anyway, then I would be most grateful to hear from you.
