red mail William Harper Penrallt Barmouth
William Harper's family moved from Liverpool some time after the 1901 Census and he and his parents (father and stepmother from second marriage), originally from Unst, Shetland, and two of his brothers (Peter and John) were all living in Arthog at the 1911 Census. His father Peter died in Barmouth Junction (Morfa Mawddach) in 1919; have not yet traced his mother's death. William died in 1966 aged 84 and is described as a retired theatre manager. He left a widow (name unknown, but initials M H). Does anyone out there know more of this branch of the Harper family?
Vaughans and Humpheys in Barmouth
John Vaughan a boatman and Gwen (nee Lewis) lived on Penygraig near to St Georges cottages in 1841 to 1881 and their family after that. He was a mariner and never on a census although his family were. These were my g.grandparents. Orielton Hall Barmouth
Does anybody know of Orielton Hall in Barmouth? Is it still there? In 1901 it was owned by Col.H.E. Bentley, it was named after the home of his mother's family Orielton in Pembrokeshire. Judging by the census it was quite large and may have been being used as a convalescent home for the wounded in the Boer War. Any help at all, but of course especially any pictures, would be very much appreciated.
