Looking for any records of the above Family GOLLAN, Hannah Gollan is listed as being Born here in 1854, Parents Roderick and Jane, Hannah turns up in Australia in 1858. The family originally from Inverness Scotland. There is some evidence to suggest that her Father Roderick settled Australia in the Early 1840,s, however returned to Lincolnshire before going back to Australia in 1858? (Reason ??) can anyone help.
red mail Wright
A few years ago, whilst walking up Commercial Lane looking to recognise the house my aunt and uncle once lived in, a lady standing on her own doorstep asked if I was looking for someone. I told her of my search and she told me that she would have been living on the street at the same time as them. The problem was I didnt know their surname and the lady didnt recognise their christian names! I have since discovered their surname was Wright. I realise this is straw-clutching, but here goes.
red mail Grantham motorcycle centre
I am looking for a photo of 6 London Road, Grantham in the 1950's when it was the Grantham and district motorcycle centre. The photo is for private use as I am putting together a history of my Dad's Triumph motorcycle for his 80th birthday. Alan
Looking for some exact dates on John William Shelborn, who married Mary Ann Pulford A/M/j 1889 in Grantham. I believe that she was born in Grantham in 1863, but he could have been born in Leicestershire in 1862 ?? It's also probable that they both died in the Wakefield area in the 1930's. Bit of a mixed bag, but if anyone can confirm any of the B/M/D dates for either of them, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Mary Ann ROADLEY (1818-1903) born in Grantham married Joseph CLIPSHAM (1812-1886) in Grantham Parish Church in April 1841. Afterwards moved to London, then back to West Barkwith and subsequently to Liverpool. Any info particularly on parents of Mary Ann most welcome.
Secker of Grantham
Working on John Secker, Clerk Comptroller of the King's Kitchens in London, who died 1785. Have been unable to ascertain his birth information. Archbishop Thomas Secker in his autobiography said that John's grandfather was "certainly" related to his family, though was not sure how. This seems to indicate that John's grandfather was from the Marston or Grantham area. I'm working on this family for a friend because of connections to Hampton Court and have found no living descendants of John. Would be glad to hear from anyone who might be able to provide illumination. I do have lots of info on the Secker family, generally.
red mail Thomas Allen
Thomas Allen married Polly Cook in Heysham,Lancashire in 1901.These were my great grandparents.I have traced the Cook family with some satisfaction back to Norfolk but am having great difficulties with Thomas Allen. On his marriage certificate he says he was born in Grantham,Lincolnshire in 1859 and that his father was a John Allen, blacksmith. He says he is a mason. In 1901 before his marriage he was lodging with Polly's older sister Emma North and her family in Weston Point Runcorn,Cheshire.Again,he is from Grantham and a stone mason. But there is some confusion over his birthdate, stated as 1842.I located him in 1891 as living with a Jane and several children all using the surname Allen as was common in those days when divorce was difficult to obtain.(Jane was born in Bodmin and her children Cicely,Rose,Amy,May,Floranceand Thomas born in Northamptonshire,Lincolnshire,Yorkshire,Northumberland,South Wales and Warrington, respectively between 1879 and 1889)The children,of course, could be Thomas'but I doubt it because I can find these'Allen'children nowhere else at all!In 1891 they are all living in Ince Huts near Chester and Thomas is down as working as amason on the building of the railway for the Manchester ship canal. His birthdate is down as 1853.But I cannot locate him,at all, before this date.Nor a John Allen,Blacksmith. On my grandfather's marriage certificate and Polly,s death certificate he suddenly becomes John Thomas Allen. The rumour is that he was fathered by the Earl of Yarborough and a cook or housekeeper. But,again, illegitimacy was a dreadful shame so claiming aristocratic genes was a common consolation! My problem, however,is whether true or just a cover up it makes my search almost impossible ,as,if true,it's hardly likely to be documented,if so,where?....and if not true, who was his mother ,anyway?Polly and Thomas had 12 children,9surviving to adulthood-Thomas Richard(my grandfather),George Spilman,Millicent Ruby J.,Charles Henry,Margaret Agnes,Charlotte Lillian, John J.,Arthur Edward and Ernest J.between 1902 and 1918 in Heysham,Durham,Sculcoates ,Ripon and Cambridge.Polly died in 1928 at Whitegates Head Farm,Soylake,Halifax. And Thomas died in 1933 in Halifax. The Cooks and the Allens are big families and I am hoping something here will ring a bell with someone who knows something I don't!I really would like to know who Thomas'Mother was!

red mail Reid/Band - Grantham
I have just started researching my family tree. My paternal grandmother - Gladys Evaline (alt Eveline) Reid - was born in Grantham (DOB: 15 May 1895) to parents Walter & Kate Reid (nee Band). She had a daughter named "Oris Enid" (DOB: 1913 or 1914). The father is recorded simply as "Oris" and his DOB is "about" 1880. I don't know whether Oris is a surname or christian name - but suspect probably a surname. Gladys later married Harry Hore on either 10 or 11 Nov 1917, in Grantham and emigrated to New Zealand some time after that. If anyone has any details about these family members, I would be pleased to receive them and to share any useful detail from my research to date.

red mail Sharp/sharpe Family Of Grantham
Looking for more information on my great-grandmother's family. Susannah Sharp was born in Grantham, Lincolnshire on 3 December, 1849. On her death certificate, her father's name was given as William Sharpe and her mother's maiden name was given asMary Musson. I have located a marriage record for a William Sharpe and Mary Musson who were wed on 17 November, 1832 in Coningsby, Lincolnshire, but I have no concrete proof that they are indeed Susannah's parents - she was a late baby, if so, and would have undeniably had siblings. They may have been Methodist - Susannah's husband, John James Hill apparently was. The 1881 British census states that John and Susannah were then living in Sewstern, Leicestershire and that while John was bornin Doncaster, Yorkshire, Susannah and their children were born in Grantham - this would seem to indicate that Susannah and her family had been in Grantham for some time. The Hill family came to the US in 1881 as part of the Mormon Immigration; theysettled in Orem (Provo Bench). Susannah Hill died 27 January 1918.
