William Saltfleet of Gainsborough
My ancestor, Private William Saltfleet, 3rd Foot Guards, was born in the parish of Gainsborough, Co Lincoln, and joined the 3rd Guards at Bristol on 13th August 1800, aged 34. He was discharged on 24th March 1816. He had previously been in the Somerset Fencibles from 31st July 1798 to 1st April 1800, aged 49. He married Frances Hutchin at St George, Hanover Square, Westminster, on 12th Nov 1793. Their children seem all to have been born in Westminster where the family settled. William Saltfleet died and was buried at St Mary at Lambeth, on 21st April 1833 aged "70". He married Rose Ellen Lowe in Gainsborough in 1902 and they had 4 or 5 children together before going their separate ways - I don't believe they divorced. Matthew served overseas with the Labour Corps during the 1914-18 War and was invalided out in 1919. By the mid/late 20's Matthew was in a relationship in Bottesford(White Farm?), Scunthorpe with a Miss Emily Major and they had 3 children together before parting in the mid-thirties.
