red mail West family in 19th century Leicester.
Henry WEST married Esther CROOKES at St.Margaret's Church, Leicester 4 Dec 1836. Occupation of Henry West 'smith at foundry'. Lived in Crab Street, (no 54 at least some of this time) in Leicester. There may have been only four children of the marriage: George, b.24 Jan 1841; John Henry, b.14 June 1842; Alfred, b.22 Sep 1843; and Hannah, b.25 Dec 1844, all were born at Crab Street, although Hannah may have lived next door when she was a little older. Sometime in the 1850s the family relocated to Plumstead in Kent. Father and the two younger sons stayed in the ironworking industry, George trained as a teacher at Borough Road College, Southward in the early 1860s and moved to Suffolk. Would be very pleased to hear from anyone who has details of this family.

John Miles lived in Leicester with the 9 of his youngest children although the youngest, Clarence, was not his son. Clarence's Mother was a Lily Miles and no father was on the certificate. Who was Lily Miles? What happened to her and to Clarence? JOHN MILES was born in March in Cambridgeshire in about 1837 but I have found no Birth Information. His wife JOAN nee RIDLEY came from Burton-in Kendal, Westmoreland. They must have been married about 1868 maybe in York where their first son, John Herbert Miles, was born in 1869. JOHN HERBERT MILES had changed his name by the time he got married to LOUISE SARAH WRIGHT in Bedford, in 1893, to JOHN HERBERT EMMANNUEL CHICHESTER-MILES, Why did he do this? John Miles moved from York to Wolverton, Buckinghamshire, in about 1877 and lived there with all the family, about 12 children eventually, until after the 1891 census when he must have moved to Leicester. All the places he lived seem to have been large railway centres but I don't think he worked for the railways. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

My grandfather was Wallace Howes Hewson (or Newson) Vincent Hudson (nice of his parents to use up all these names on one child). His dad was Alfred - Wally himself was a typesetter and photolithographer who bounced his family between England and Canada during the Depression to keep employed. Wife was Ethelwynn (Hetty) Smith, who had a brother in Canada named Bert. Children were Gerald Ivor Hudson (my dad) and Cyril Hudson. Gerald married Patricia Baldwin from Maidstone, and Cyril married Daphne Weeks. Wally had brothers and cousins who dispersed around the world. One cousin ended up in Natal province, South Africa. He then moved to British Columbia later in life. Anyinfo would be appreciated; all messages will receive a reply. Cheers!
