Are You Looking For A Murphy In Wigan - Read On
My brother in law has completed some extensive research in the Murphy line of his family which came from Wigan. He does not have anyone to pass this information to and fears that when he is no longer here that all his work would have been in vain. He does not have an email address or regular internet access and so he has asked me to post this message for him and I will forward any reply to him. He realises that there has been a lot of Murphys' in Wigan and so has given me details of several of his ancestors for anyone to identify if they have an interest. James Murphy who married Ann Hague in 1879, Andrew Murphy who married Alice Williams in 1891, Catherine Murphy who married Thomas Morgan in 1908, James Murphy who married Margaret Brown in 1886, Timothy Murphy who married Sarah Ann Moore in 1898, Peter Murphy who married Mary Ann Horne in 1899 and Catherine Murphy who married Henry M Pyke in 1925. I can vouch for his research being thorough and would be a valuable resource for anyone researching this family

Unnamed parent
In several instances on my family tree where a child was born before the parents married the child has had to retain the mother's maiden name. In 1859 Matthew Draper was born just 4 weeks before his mother Elizabeth Draper married Joseph Melling and we have always thought that Joseph was Matthew's father. However on both Matthews birth/marriage certificate father's name is blank. what reason could there be for this, it seems strange considering that his mother married so soon after his birth.. It seems certain that Joesph brought Matthew up as his own as I remember several Melling cousins/aunts/uncles in the family Any ideas welcome

MORLEY, Joseph Vincent
I am trying to find out where Joseph came from. Family lore has it he is from Wigan, or perhaps Wiggen. His death certificate is inconclusive. In any case; Joseph, son of Own Morley and Mary O'Dea, was born 13 May 1863, moved to Ohio as a child, was naturalized in 1884, and died in Youngstown OH in 1915. He was a puddler in the steel mills. There is much to share on his 8 children and numerous greats and great greats. Love to have some help, Any clues?

red mail MORGAN-Lancashire-railway worker
I am looking for any information concerning my grandmother's siblings. They were Annie MORGAN, born 1886,in Atherton/Chowbent, William MORGAN, born c. 1889, in Cadishead, James MORGAN, born, c. 1896, in Burnley and John MORGAN, born, c. 1892, in Hollinwood. Their father was William Morgan, born c. 1845 in Shropshire (or Montgomeryshire) and their mother was Hannah (nee Harper but "previously" married to a (Thomas) Hall). William and Hannah may or may not have married officially. William died in 1898 and Hannah married (this time formally) a Tom Paddison in Burnley. All of the children, including my grandmother Polly had the surname MORGAN. William had been a railway navvie (platelayer) and had, it appears achieved foreman status at his death. Tom Paddison was also a railway navvie. Because I can find no marriage records for William and Hannah, I am at a loss when it comes to finding out about William's family. I have possibilities, but they are unverifiable because of the lack of records, beyond his certain appearance on the 1891 census and his children on the 1901 census (and the birth certificates of Annie and Polly). Beyond this I am stymied.
