I am seeking the parents of John Crossley born Lowerplace Roachdale Lancashire. He was born 1780 in Lowerplace, Lancashire indicated in his Army record. He was in the Royal Artillery and was discharged at age 35 and given a pension in 1816. At his time of discharge he was living in Lacolle, St. Jean County, Quebec, Canada. He remained in Lacolle for the remainder of his life and died there. He is last found living in Lacolle in the 1851 Canadian Census. John Crossley is my wife's 4th great grandfather who we have been searching for his parents for more than 20 years. Can anyone help me determine his parents? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for details on a John Cregg. According to 1901 Census he was 52yrs, placing his birth at abt 1848, and was born in Rochdale. He is the 2nd Husband of my ggg grandmother Emma Lacey (also Lacy). Emma was born a Hornby and married Joseph Lacey in Wakefield, Yorkshire 1868. I dont know what happened to Joseph as up to now I cannot find any death records for him. John and Emma Cregg are listed as parents to Annie Bulmer (nee Lacey)and living with Annie her husband and 5 of their children. He married Mary Holt in 1824-1829 (banns St Chad 1824, but cannot find marriage); their children were William c1830, Alexander c1832-1878 (m. Mary Clegg 1854), John c.1836-c.1875 (m. I have Brierleys from Rochdale
My Grandfather was Squire Brierley, married Annie McCormick - they had 3 children in Rochdale Robert, James & Annie, then came to the USA. I believe Squires father was Edmund I believe- Mother Sarah. Annies parents lived in Rochdale, James Father. Siblings - Mary, Lucy, James. They lived on Milk Street (house now gone). Seeking info about my late grandfather's brothers who are believed to have emigrated to Canada or USA. My grandfather was EDWARD COLMAN (born c1899). He had an elder sister MARGARET COLMAN (born c1898 and two younger brothers, MALACHI COLMAN (born c1900) and MARTIN COLMAN (born 1902). I would appreciate any info at all about any of these four. Their irish born father (also Martin Colman), was a police constable in Lancs, their mother died in 1902 just after Martin was born. Martin married again in 1908 to Emily Ashworth, info about her also gladly received. Edward married Maggie Roscoe; they had Edward, Agnes, Winnie, Margaret, Ronald, and my father Bernard. This family was well known around Heywood, somebody must know something!

I have traced my husband's HEYS family to Padiham just outside Burnley, Lancashire in 1830s. But there are Rochale connections. Ormerod HEYS c.1835/6 was born to Mary HEYS (nee Butterworth) widow of Richard HEYS. Ormerod HEYS married Alice Ann HAYHURST at Haslingdon Register Office 1856. Ormerod and Alice Ann's son John Ormerod HEYS was born at West Hartlepool 1859/1860 (can't find his birth registration). Their other children were: Alice Anne (1867/68 West Hartlepool) married Joseph WOOD in Rochdale. Frederick (1871 Newcastle), married Sarah (?) 1898 but died 1901. Thomas Henry (1874) Newcastle married Polly NUTTALL, Rochdale 1899. Sarah (1877/78 Newcastle) married William OLDHAM, Rochdale 1901 and Harriet (1881 Bow London) married Joseph Henry WALLIS, Rochdale 1904. The family were living at Candy Street, Bow in 1881 but by 1891 Ormerod had taken his family to Rochdale, all except for John Ormerod HEYS who had married Ann(ie) CONNER in 1881 at St Johns Bethnal Green - our London branch.

I am looking for information regarding my great great grandparents Luke Sanderson who married Mary Sutcliffe around 1860. They lived in Rochdale and had children, John, Fred, Willie and Edna. Mary died between 1875 and 1881. Luke ran a grocers shop with his second wife Elizabeth and his son Willie became manager of the Mutual Stamp Benefit Company in Rochdale. Willie's wife Margaret was Scottish.

They had 3 (known) children, John b.04.07.1820, Squire b.20.11.1817, and Elizabeth b.1503.1816. All children were christened at St Stephens, Rochdale. Squire Barlow married Mary Taylor on 12.08.1838. Squire emigrated to Victoria Australia in 1853 aboard the 'Goldfinder' with his two eldest children, Alfred and James. Mary Followed him soon after with their other children. Any information/contacts of this family welcomed.

I am looking for descendants of Joseph Brown, father John who was born in 1745. Joseph was born March 1777 at Waitgate Farm near Richmond Yorkshire. He married in 1800 Ann Healey born Rochdale, Lancashire in Jan 1782, died Rochdale Dec 1822. They had 11 children, most were born in Rochdale but some were born in Preston,Lancashire. Joseph although living in Preston died at Rochdale in May 1848. One of Joseph and Ann's sons became one of the first people in the country to be baptised into the Mormon faith and subsequently emmigrated to Utah.

Trying to find Jane born 1837/8 in Rochdale area. Her father was James Mills - I don't know her mother's name. She married James Thomas Fielding on 23/5/1861 at St Stephen's Church at which time her address was given as Milnrow (no other detail). There are several Jane Mills in the area but which one is mine? I am looking on information on a Harry Dearden b 1893..who was a son of James and Sarah Dearden in Rochdale. Some of James and Sarah's other children were Ernest, Walter and Mary anne. Harry married Margaret Anne Bottomley-Hayes somewhere in the areaas well. There are thousands of Deardens listed on census etc, but this branch doesn't seem to be anywhere. Does anyone have anything? Apparently James owned a pub in Rochdale area called the 'Five Alls' or the 'Britannia' although I have not seen evidence of this yet. He only seems to have been a cotton spinner. Thanks in advance

The Local Studies Library for Rochdale has just moved back into its refurbished premises on the Esplanade. They have been "camping out" for over 2 years, but it has been well worth the wait. There are marvellous new facillities now availablewhich at last do justice to the fantastic collection and the wonderful staff for whom nothing seems to be too much trouble.
