My grandmother and her family were taken in by a Synagogue, possibly in Prestwich around 1841 when their home in Salford was blitzed. My mother, who was only 4yrs old at the time is very grateful to the kind people who offered them shelter and santa at Christmas! Would anyone know of this place and the people who offered refuge there?

My grandmother,Florence Richards was employed as "an attendant upon the insane " at Prestwich Asylum from 1900 until she left to be married to my grandfather,John Farquhar who also worked at the asylum in a similar capacity ( attendant/gardener) in 1909.I know and have records of her life from just prior to her employment at the asylum until her death at the end of 1921. She is buried in St Mary's churchyard.I have no information of her life before she came to Prestwich but believe she had connections in Bilston and Stoke, both in Staffordshire.She lived in Clegg Street, Bessies-o-th-Barn and later at 8 West Rd.Any information would be gratefully received as i have reached a complete stop on this womans early life.Thanks.

I am trying to trace the Horrobin side of my Family. My great-grandfather was Sydney Horrobin (a Research Chemist) born Mar 1905 in either the Prestwich of Oldham area. He married Amy Crabtree in Apr 1931 and they had 2 children named Cynthia (my grandmother) and Stephanie. If anybody has any information on this family I would be grateful if you could point me in the right direction.

Am currently researching Briggs family of this area. Specifically David Briggs, bricklayer born about 1808 and his wife Betty, born around the same time. They had children Carshena, Armena and Emma (who is my great grandmother. I have all the details from the 1841 and subsequent censuses but would like earlier information. Would like to know details of David's parents, Betty's maiden name and any other details.

Hi, Am looking for any details on Joseph Kennedy who married Susannah Stopford in 1915. They had a son in 1916 Thomas, a daughter Laura (Smith). Thomas Kennedy married Winifred Ross @1942, they had 3 sons Thomas Edward ( who passed away in infancy) Roger in 1945 and Terence (my father) in 1948. Any information on Joseph Kennedy, his parents or Susannah Stopford would be great.

I would appreciate any information at all with regard to a Jewish family that may have come over from Russia and lived in the Prestwich area. Their surname was CREAM and family names were Jacob, Harris (or Harry). Harris (or Harry) probably left Liverpool for Canada in the early 1900's. He may have had a brother called Maurice.

although my ancestor, Harriet Durrant lived bofore and after the birth of her twins Richard and Elizabeth Ann in Rawtenstall, Lancs. She gave birth to them at Mount Pleasant, Prestwich in 1860. There would have been hospitals closer if it was medical treatment only that she required. Can anyone give me more info on Mount Pleasant, was it an asylum? Would be grateful for ínfo and ideas as to why she possibly made the long journey.

Edward/Edmund. Briggs born Prestwich about 1700 had at least four sons, Thomas, b. 1736, Robert, b. 1736, James, b. 1738 & Edmund, b. 1740. I am descended from Robert. Any information pre 1700 would be appreciated. Robert married Sarah; children Edmund 1763,d.1780, Mary 1763 (twins?) John 1765, Robert 1771, Alice 1774, Thomas 1776, Edmund 1780. Robert married Mary Hallewell of Deane (Bolton?)had children John 1793, Matty 1794, Sally 1796, Ralph 1800, Joseph 1802, William 1804, Robert 1806, Thomas 1814 and Tamar 1817. Tamar is my great x2 grandma, married James Heywood at Bury in 1836,had Mary 1837, Emily 1842, Sarah 1846, Robert 1848, James 1850, Thomas 1852 and Louisa 1854. Would love further information on any of these.

I am researching the Briggs family and their connections in the Prestwich and Whitefield area. I have an Edmund/Edward Briggs born aroung 1700 who married a Jane Hulton in 1725...any information? Their son Thomas b1722 married a Mary Kenion...I need information on her family. Their son Robert b 1756 in Pilkington, Unsworth married Phillis Thorpe in 1776...any information on the Thorpe family? Their son Robert b 1784 married Mary Jackson in 1806...again information on the Jacksons would be great....Isaac Briggs b 1811...builder married Mary Wolstenholme.she was a widow and had previously been married to William Wilkinson...her father was Thomas and her mother a Mary...unsure of surname...Frank Briggs their son was my great Grandfather Arthur's dad....Frank married Annie Bedford. does anyone know of any early residents of Polefield Circle, Prestwich. We believe the houses were built in the 1930s.Did you live here or have any relatives in the circle, would love to find out some history about it especially what was here before the estate was built.

Finding it very hard to glean info about Joseph Schofield, b 1809 Prestwich, who married Betty Horsfield about 1832. One of his sons had the unusual name BOLD SCHOFIELD 1848. I believe there's a link to the only other BOLD SCHOFIELD 1826, who lived in the same road (Rooden Lane, Prestwich). They must have been cousins. Bold's sister was Sarah Schofield, who married Daniel Heywood. Another sister was Mary Ann Schofield. There were others, but the census info has been damaged by water and is unusable.
