red mail John Robert Woods and Mary McGreal
Hi, I'm looking for information about Mary McGreal, born 1884, who married John Robert Woods, known as Robert Woods in 1904 in Preston. Robert was killed in action in 1914, and it is thought that Mary died soon after. It has not been possible to find a death for her, and it could be that she didn't die, but perhaps suffered a breakdown and was sent to an asylum. Mary and Robert's children, John and Elizabeth, were sent to Catholic orphanages. There was also another child, Robert, born in 1915. On his birth certificate it named Robert as his father and gives Roberts army details. I don't know if this child survived. Any help would be very much appreciated.

I am trying to find out more information about the tragic demise of Eva Sullivan and Helen Johnson (mother and daughter) who tragically died in a hotel room (The Kings Head on Stanley Road Preston). Step father was born in Preston. His father was David Leslie Nye. His mother was Joyce (?Dudley) Martin. In 1911, they all resided in Southport, Lancashire. According to my uncle, the twin girls lived in (Grimsaugh)Preston, Lancashire growing up, with a lady known as "Aunty B". Thomas Buchanan 1806
Seeking birthplace of ggg grandfather, Thomas Buchanan (Shipwright), who married Catharina Wales, 23 June 1806, at St Johns, Preston, Lancashire. Catharina signed the register with an X. Subsequent birth certificates for her children have Catherine, Catherina and Catharine as variants. Their son, Johnson Buchanan, a shipwright/journeyman, according to death certificate No. 356 for Lancashire district, Toxteth Park, died 02 February 1888, address 53 Peel Street, Liverpool, aged 73 - so his birth was probably around 1815. Johnsons siblings were Wales, William, Thomas Izaac, and Ann Catharina. He married Ellen Miller/Millar, 12 February 1838, at St Mary Walton, Liverpool. 1841 census shows the Buchanan family at Woolf St, Liverpool Johnston Buchanan (Shipwright, age 26), Ellen (27), Jas (age 4) and Robt (2). 1851 census lists Jas (James) and siblings Robert, Johnston, William Henry, and Emma (who married James Mottram at St Peters Liverpool, 13 May 1868. E. Mottram was present at the death of Johnson Buchanan in 1888). Johnstons son, James, migrated to Australia and married Elizabeth Kenley in Melbourne, Australia, 05 September 1878. A few years later he moved to Western Australia where he established a farm that he called Toxteth Park. His children were Edward Henry, Mabel Eleanor, Jessie Edith Alice, Victor George and Bertram Mervyn. I seem to be at an impasse having found no earlier information, on the Buchanan family, than 1806 and I would be delighted to confirm the family folk lore that Thomas Buchanan was born in Scotland.
