I am looking for information on a Vera Johns who married Herbert Potter in Prescot in 1940. She was born in Monmouthshire, Wales in 1913, mother Emily Hobbs Tipton, father David Samuel Johns. They emigrated first to Australia in 1927, then to Canada in 1929 where they lived until 1935 when she and her mother returned to England, to Liverpool where they had an address to go to: 18 Aspen Grove, Sefton Park. From my research, I think she and her husband may have had a son, David H Potter, born in Liverpool in 1943. She died in Liverpool in 1992. Any info gratefully received. Thanks. Glynis

Am trying to put some "meat on the bones" of my family who all came from Prescot. Some info on Tyrer's gents outfitters in Eccleston Street would be great. Would like to find out where any of my great-grandfather's (Henry Fairclough) paintings are apart from the ones in the Museum. How many are hiding in peoples' attics?! He worked at the BICC factory as an engineer (Millright perhaps) was married to Susan Hatfield (from Clowne Darbyshire) in 1903 and then had some daughters Annie, Gwendolyn, Gladys and later Nora and Janet. I am trying to trace my ancestors my G Grandfather Simeon Woodyer, my grandmother was his daughter, Margaret who married Edward Jones @ 1906 & married again in 1915 to my grandfather herbert Williams from Acrefair, near Ruabon. I believe my grandmother came from a farming family near Widnes. My grandfather Herbert, who was an elecrical engineer at Pilkintons left the family @ 1925 & lost touch & I have since discovered he died in Liverpool @ 1933. The family lived at Shuttle Alley, and Haughton St, Prescot, and in 1840 Jane married JOHN BROWN, a Watch wheel maker, at the Parochial Chapel, Farnworth. Their children were William, Mary, John, James, Elizabeth and Ann. William, a watch maker, married Hannah Brown in 1860 at St Peters, Liverpool, and they moved to Oldham in 1880/81, where William became Town Hall Porter and later the Town Hall Superintendent.He died in 1916 and Hannah died in 1918.Their children were Elizabeth, John, Mary Jane, Emily Constance, James Henry, Lucy and Hannah (Annie).

I am trying to find out where in Co Mayo Ireland my grandfather was born. All I know so far is that he went to England maybe before 1891 as there is a James Higgins living with his sister Ann Malone at Haslingden on the 1891 Census. Then he appears on the 1901 Census living at 14 Tea Street Prescot (Shamrock Tavern Pub) with a Mary Ellen Comer (nee Donnelly) and her two children. She had married a Thomas Comer in 1898 and Thomas had died in 1900. Mary Ellen Comer then married James Higgins in 1902 and became my grandparents. They had 6 children and lived in Toxteth and Kirkdale in Liverpool. I know Mary Ellen died in 1923 and James died in 1938. James was born in 1870 and Mary Ellen in 1877 somewhere in Co Mayo. Hello I am looking for any information on the "Shamrock Tavern" which was situated at 14 Tea Street Prescot Lancs in 1901. Mary Ellen Comer was listed as a Beer House keeper at that address in the 1901 Census. I have found that she was born Mary Ellen Donnelly in Ireland and she married Thomas Comer in 1898 at Prescot. They had two children Margaret born 1899 and William born 1900. Then Thomas Comer died in 1900. In 1902 Mary Ellen Comer married James Higgins (who was a boarder at the Shamrock Tavern in 1901) and they became my grandparents but I never knew them as they both died before I was born and were living in Liverpool 5 when they died. In the 1891 Census there is a family of Comer's living at 15 Tea Street Prescot who I think are Thomas's family. Does anyone have any information on the Shamrock Tavern and the Comer family? Children of Hannah & Henry were Lucy,born c.1815 in Bucks, died 1880 in Prescot, William TRANTUM married Alice Young, and John TRANTUM married Mary (surname unknown), Richard TRANTUM married Elizabeth, and Mary TRANTUM married John Fairclough. All were born in Buckinghamshire but by 1839 the family was in the Prescot area when Henry,a Potter,died there. In 1841 Hannah was living at Prescot with daughter LUCY and son in law James Brown, a bricksetter, whom Lucy had married at Farnworth in 1833. In 1851 Hannah was at Eccleston with another daughter Mary and husband John Fairclough. Hannah died in Prescot in 1858. I should like to hear from any descendants of these families.
