red mail The Surname Orrit- history.
Was interested in the surname Orrit and it's origins, which seem to be in Ormskirk, Lancashire, England; do you think it could be a locational name like Brosnan is with regard to Brosna in Kerry? Does anyone know the history about Orrits? It was the ex partner's mother's maiden name and was always something which was intriguing.

red mail Price sister's in Ormskirk
Sisters Elsie & Florence Price sometime after 1900 were despatched from Hull to live with an unrelated family with surnames Hollett & Gayther in Ormskirk. It's known that Florence lived her life out in nearby Southport, and Elsie, after many misfortunes later married back in Hull. But nothing more is known of these girls. Why they were moved and what happened to their mother called Edna, nee Cann is unknown. Edna is with her husband, George Frost Price and children in 1901 living in Hull, but then seems to vanish. Can anyone throw any light on these two girls lives in Ormskirk please. Thank you.

red mail Blundells of West Lancashire
I am trying to find out if I am really related to the Blundell family of Ormskirk and district. Can anyone help? Here is my problem. My mother's mother was Sophia Blundell (1891-1975). Her father was John Blundell (1853-1907). However, my research shows that John was born John Iddon, the illegitimate son of Sophia Iddon. (I have his birth certificate - he was born in Ormskirk on 11 November 1853, no father is named.) On 10 June 1859, Sophia Iddon married William Blundell in Liverpool. (William was 9 years younger than Sophia. He was born in Aughton around 1834, son of George Blundell.) Note that John Iddon was 5 years old when his mother married. At the 1861 census, John was named as John Blundell, not Iddon, and he kept this name for the rest of his life. On his father's (William's) death certificate he is described as the deceased's son, not stepson. My dilemma is, was William Blundell John's biological father? If so, why did they wait until John was 5 years old before they married? Is it possible that John believed William to be his father, even if this was not the case? Any information or suggestions would be gratefully received.
