Seeking info on Isaiah Hall, one time master of the 16th century Oldham Grammar School, died July 1858, also wife Martha Shaw & their daughter Sarah HALL, born 1858. Sarah married George Edward Taylor 1877 at Waterhead, Oldham and they had a son Isaiah Taylor in 1879. It is believed they emigrated to Pawtucket, Rhode Island, USA in 1882. Isaiah Taylor married a Margaret, whose mother's name was McBride (born in Scotland). Would welcome any information on this family.

Frederick William BERRY was born in Oldham in 1886 and married Louisa ROGERS in Stretford in 1921 and had 2 children, Eileen and Estella in 1922 and 1923. In 1923 he walked out of the house and was never seen again! He was a musician and conducted or played in brass bands. He may have returned to Oldham. Has anyone found him please?

Looking for info on my g-grandfather's sister Phoebe Riley (born Sheffield) who married widower George Goulding Rogers (also born Sheffield) in Oldham in 1877. In 1881 they were listed as Rodgers and living at 77 Lee Street, Oldham with George's daughter Mary Rodgers. No sign of the family after 1881. Maybe they emigrated? I would like to hear from any descendants.

Frank W Smith (born 1862) was the son of George Barker Smith and Ellen(nee Cheetham, born 1836 in Gatley). Frank married Ann Sucksmith in Oldham in 1882. They had daughters Amy E Smith b.1886 and Elsie A Smith b. 1891. I should like to hear from any descendants with a view to sharing information on our Cheetham ancestors.

I am trying to trace my dads family tree. His name was Albert Edward Rostern Jr. and he was born in Oldham in July, 1940. Before he immigrated to Canada in early 1960 where he met my mum and started our family he lived on the Abbey Hills Estate with his family. His parents were Albert Edward (Sr) and Annie Hilton. I believe my great-grandmothers name on my grandmothers side was Katherine Parr. I do not know anything about my grandfathers parents other than my great grandfather, John Rostern, went to West Virginia in the early 1900's to find work but returned two years later because of family illness. Has anyone got any info about this school in the 1850s 1860s.My ancestor Isaac Sumner was a pupil and teacher there. He left in c1860 and the trail goes cold. He is on the census 1861 as a visitor.There are connections with the Sumner family of Mow Cop /Odd Rode in Cheshire. I can't yet find a connection only that his bible found its way to my grandmother who was a Sumner from Cheshire.He may have settled in the Cheetham area of Manchester.I don't know if he had children.

Looking for the relatives of Thomas (Snr) and Anne Whitehead who emigrated to South Africa in late 1920s or early 1930s. To my knowledge they had 4 children (all born in Oldham): Nellie, Fred, Jack (John) and Thomas (Jnr, the youngest child, born in 1924. Son Jack had polio (not sure when) and walked with a limp in his leg. Thomas (Snr) was apparently orphaned when his own father died in the snow on christmas eve. His family were apparently involved in the pottery/crockery business and it seems that he had at least one sister or sister in law named Sarah. Thomas (Snr)was a decorator/wall paper hanger in South Africa, he may have had the same profession in Oldham. His wife Ann was of Scottish decent and she worked in a workhouse or factory as a seamstress from the age of 12. Do any of these stories sound familiar to anyone?

I have been at a Brick Wall for some time (over 20 years actually), trying to trace my Great Great Grandfather Edwin Buckley born c1820 in Oldham Lancashire. What I really need to find is his birth, so I can find his parents. I hope someone out there can help. He was transported to Australia: Convict no. 40/1297 aboard ship City of Maitland 1840 from Lancashire - shoplifting - sentenced 7yrs arrived 1840 at 20 yrs. He was a factory boy. 5'8 1/2" ruddy, freckled red hair. He could not read or write. Eyes Hazel grey. Missing top of middle and 3rd fingers on right hand. I am looking for Patrick (Pat) unfortuantley surname unknown. I know he was originally from Co Wicklow but moved to England during the 1960's (ish) when he was probably in his late teens early 20's. Pat dated Maureen Condron in 1963/4, and I believe became very close to getting married. Maureen worked as a student nurse at Oldham Royal Hospital in England and Pat worked, I believe in the Oldham area, in the building trade. In the evenings they would frequent the Hathershawe Hotel in Oldham along with, I believe Pat's friend, Jimmy and his girlfriend. Ralph BRADBURY had married Elizabeth (Betty) WINTERBOTTOM in 1839 at Ashton Under Lyne and by 1851 census was a mechanic and stated he was born in Oldham. No amount of church research has unearthed his name or his father John who on marriage cert wasa carder. Betty's father was a collier named John. By 1861 the family had moved to Wandsworth, Surrey and Ralph was an engine fitter. Probably in the Railway at Wandsworth. Last reading of Ralph and Elizabeth after rearing 12 children was in Oare Kent in 1881 census. Ages were 62 and 61yrs. Any other descendants into genealogy?
