Charlesworths in Manchester
Does anyone remember my Grandfather Arthur Charlesworth, (1896-1950). He owned a garage on Hyde Road and was married to Rose Ellen Burton, (1885-1947). They had 2 daughters, Irene born 1918 (my mum) and Joan born 1920. They lived in Rusholme Road andlater in Northenden. Arthur was in the RAF and served in France in 1918 when he was 22. If anyone knows anything about him or his extended family HELP!

Alexander Thomson was a professor of theology at the University of Edinburgh; I have not yet established where he was born, and that is part of my purpose for posting. He married Emma Jane East (b 1819, Birmingham) and they had 5 children: Emma Morell Mackenzie Thomson b 1844, William Alexander East Thomson 1845, Emily Gertrude Thomson 1845, Ann Baldwin Thomson 1848-1932 (my great grandmother), and Helen L (Nellie) Thomson. At the time of the 1881 census, he was living in Chorlton upon Medlock,Lancashire, which I understand was incorporated into Manchester at some point after that. I would like any information at all on Alexander and especially his son William. Emma, Emily, and Nellie had no children--Ann was the only sister who did, and she died young. Any descendants of William out there?

Philip Goldschmidt was elected Councillor for St James's Ward in 1869, representing the ward until elected Alderman in 1885, and was instrumental in Rusholme being incorporated into the city. He was elcted Mayor in 1884. He was a native of Oldenburgin Germany, born 1811, and married Hermine Hahlo of Munden, Hanover. Their son Herman, also an alderman, was on the Board of Manchester Eye Hospital for 50 years, another son Richard was a member of the Board of Manchester Royal Infirmary for 34 years, becoming Chairman, and a third, Sidney, was Chairman of the Duchess of York Hospital. Herman would almost certainly have been Mayor also, but after 1914 that was unthinkable for someone of German ancestry. They had a cotton business, which failed about 1930, and the premesis were destroyed in the blitz. I descend from Richard.

My Unknown Family History
My father Richard Mingham was born in Manchester but sadly passed away aged 76, three years ago. He moved to liverpool over 60 years ago to work on the Railways and married twice, the second wife being my mother Sylvia. I am looking for any family members from Manchester or any old friends of my Father from the time he lived in Manchester as I am keen to develop a family tree and unfortunately my fathers Brother Jimmy and Sister Phylis have sadly passed away prior to my father.

He changed his name from Creasey to Cressy as a young man, date unknown. Looking for information about the restaurant of Guiseppe Mentasti (anglicised as Joseph in some records)who was born in Italy and had become naturalised by 1881, along with his wife Giovannina (Lussi) who was from Bellinzona, Switz.
