William Baker, a mariner, married Ann Metcalf in Liverpool in 1850. They had a son John Matthew Baker (b Liverpool in 1851- died Llanfairfechan Wales in 1930). John had 'two brothers and two sisters who were succesful in the bakery trade at Mossley Hill, Liverpool - and only one son between them '. Possibly William and Ann split up and William had these later children by another wife. Has anyone any ideas of what became of them. In the 1851 census Ann and John are at Kent Place, Stone Street. WSR was my g/grandfather. Probably born in Liverpool in 1846 (although census entries always show Irlam). His mother was almost certainly Ellen Simner who was unmarried. She married George Royle from Manchester in Liverpool in 1852. William is not to be found in the 1851 census, or with his apparent parents in 1861. He marries Mary Ann Goddard in Liverpool in 1868 and is a hotel porter in the 1871, 1881, and 1891 census. Then I lose him. His son, also Wm Sumner Royle was brought up by an aunt in South Wales from about 1880. Mary Ann died in a mental hospital back in Gloucester in 1886. Anyone come across them?

My g.g.grandfather, John Hand (1776-1865) was a prosperous shopkeeper who lived all his life in Liverpool. A cabinet maker by trade he ended up running a shop in Bold Street. In 1801 he married Frances Duckworth and they went on to have 9 children, including my g.grandfather, Frederick. Two of John's sons, Stephen and Charles, became rich men (Charles left £50,000 when he died in 1890). Frederick married twice, and my grandmother, Ellen Hand, was the child of his second wife, Alice Brookfield. Ellen's siblings were, George Frederick, Frances (married name Collard), Sarah (married name Mcdade), and Alexander (Alec). Ellen married my grandfather, Albert Lloyd Pickering in 1898 and they had 3 daughters, Doris (married name Henry), Madeline (my mother), and Lilian (married name Plunkett). Does anyone know anything about this family?

My grandmother was born "Annie Stock" in Liverpool, Dec. 25, 1893. She had a sister named Alice; possibly a brother named Arthur...could have been others. Her parents were Charles Stock and Augusta Annie Berry. (Have found a record of an Augusta's birth that seems to be a good fit of the time and place: Liverpool, 1864; parents: James and Mary Anne Berry). I am researching my family tree, my late g grandmother was Priscilla Gander born 1872/3 in Liverpool, her father was listed as James Gander (deceased) on her marriage certificate. All I know about Priscilla is that she was left as a orphan and was sent to live with her aunt in London, name of Noble. On the 1891 I have her in Middlesbrough as a visitor, the daughter of this family, later becomes her bridesmaid at her marriage to John Stephenson, she worked at the 'big house' in Ingleby Greenhow, which is on the outskirts of Middlesbrough, she married John, who sadly died, whilst in the cinema, g great grandma thought he had fallen asleep. Is anybody else looking for the surname of Gander from the Liverpool area. I would love to hear from you, as this is my major brickwall and I would love to know more about her and her family before she was married. Amy Speed,in the 1851 Census, was working as a servant in the Walton On The Hill industrial School, one of several such schools in Liverpool and district. has anyone any information about these establishments? I know that they housed children who were in need of care and attention, those caught stealing or begging, or even selling small items. She was born, Amy Burrey, at Chorley in South Cheshire. The family lived in the West Derby area in the 1840s, at Boundary Terrace in the late 1850s, and in Prussia Street in the 1860s. By 1881 she was living in Liscard at her daughter's guest house.

I'm looking for information on a Bradley family who may have moved down to London. My grandmother was born c1900 and came from Canning Town, London but said her family moved down from the Liverpool area. She was living in Canning Town up until 1920. Her father was George Bradley and she may have had a stepmother/stepbrothers and sisters. Also her grandmother was Irish. Any information on any Bradleys would be much appreciated.
