red mail Woods family search
Seeking descendents of Robert Woods b.1882; James Woods b.1885; David Woods b.1887 and William Woods b.1891 (poss died before 1901).These 4 brothers had a sister, Mary Elizabeth b.1880, who married Christopher Mercer in 1903.All of these Woods children were born in Liverpool but both of their parents, Robert and Eliza (nee Lindsay), were from Ireland. Eliza(Lizzie) died in 1893 and Robert snr remarried. The boys were living with their father and stepmother, Clara, in 1901 together with stepsister Dora b.1890. Mary Elizabeth had moved out by then. Clara Howes nee Pennington/Pinnington is very elusive before her marriage to Robert in 1894 but the 1901 census has her birthplace as Plymouth although Dora's is Liverpool. All evidence we have lists Robert senior's job as Police Officer or Constable but Liverpool Police Archives don't have a Robert Woods whose dates match. The trail goes completely cold unless I can trace my Grandmother's brothers descendents. There surely must be some from at least 3 brothers and they would have been my mother's cousins. Do you remember hearing about Gladys, Flo, Madge, Mary, Dolly or Christy (Christopher)? There was also a baby, Robert, who died aged 13 months in 1908? Christopher Mercer had a son, Paul in 1952 who has disappeared off the map so any info on him would be much appreciated too.

red mail SMART-JONES
Seeking descendents or relatives of William (possible middle name Richard) SMART. In 1881 census, he is enumerated with mother, Eliza SMART (a widow), sister Sophia J. SMART (7 years old) and uncle George JONES. Research has suggested mother's name is Eliza Sophia JONES and that her parents may be Richard JONES and Sophia (maiden name unknown). Sister Sophia's birth record and baptism list father as Robert SMART yet no such person seems to exist anywhere. William SMART's birth and baptism also appear to be amongst the missing. If this is the family I think it is, William was born with club feet. Family lore says a wealthy Welshman arranged for William to have surgery done on him which is why the family moved to Wales. William, born in Liverpool, is found in the 1871 census, along with mother (now married to Thomas WORRALL) and sister. However, they are now using the family name JONES rather than expected SMART. In 1881, William marries Laura EVANS and they have 4 children. In 1889, there is an outgoing passenger list with "Mr. and Mrs. Wm R SMART", but no ticket issued. However, by 1895, William is found in the US with a different wife, Elizabeth A from New York. In 1897, Laura EVANS marries Robert JONES and by 1900 William SMART is married to a 3rd wife, Mildred Ann OLNEY. I would like to make contact with anyone researching any of these lines, directly or collaterally. There are far too many records I've been unable to find and hope someone else has some of the missing pieces.

red mail Sim and Moran Families
I am looking for anyone who can tell me more about the life of my great grandfather WILLIAM SIM born 1858 and his brother John born 1852. They moved from Liverpool to Plymouth Devon, after Will joined the Royal Marines in 1881. Both I believe to have been born in Liverpool. Their parents were John Sim and his wife Mary (nee Moran).Young John married (I believe) Louisa Kenyon who had been born in Victoria Australia in 1852. How did they meet I wonder? Also coincidence is that a James Kenyon was deported to Australia on a charge of murder, and on the same ship was one Edward Cosgrove Sim! I can find no connection, but seems very odd. Can anyone enlighten me as to the Sim family in Liverpool...or anything else about their early life, .....I do know they were Catholic, and that John went back to Liverpool, but Will and his wife are buried in Plymouth...Thanks
red mail Lindsay
Searching for anyone with information about Eliza Lindsay b1857. daughter of James Lindsay, a labourer. She married Robert Woods b1855, son of Robert Woods, a saddler, in 1877 in Liverpool Parish Church. He was a Police Constable, residence of both given as White Street. Census of 1881 shows both born in Ireland. Witnesses at their marriage were John Woods (brother?) and Rebecca Barklay. Eliza almost signed herself Lizzie, crossed it out and re-signed Eliza. In September 1893 Eliza died having had at least 5 children. Mary E (my grandmother), Robert, James, David and William (newborn in 1891 but not in 1901 census with his father). The informant on her death certificate is a M I Hand, Sister, from Toxteth. I can find no trace of either Eliza(Lizzie), Robert or their families prior to their marriage and no trace of any of Mary E's brothers after 1901 when they were living at 85 Walton Lane, Kirkdale. Robert had remarried to Clara Howes (widow) and there was a child called Dora Woods living with them in 1901 who was probably Clara's. Robert was a Policeman at each census. David and James worked as railway porters and Robert Jnr was a Joiners labourer. Anything would be appreciated.

David Boyd married to Eliza (nee Donald) had a daughter called Maria on the 8th July 1855. Maria married James Holland Crompton on March 26th 1883 although it states her age as a lot younger on her marriage certificate I think she was being economical with the truth. David Boyd and Eliza Donald were born and were married in Ireland as were their children Isabella and Mary, when they moved to England sometime after 1846. I believe they were born in Newry County Down. I would love to find out more of their Irish origins.

red mail Stephenson family
Stephensons of Scotland, Liverpool, Bebington and Wigan, UK, and Queensland, Australia (Cardwell, Chillagoe, Bundaberg). We are trying to find out more about the above who emigrated from England in the mid- to late 19th and early 20th centuries. Thomas (b Liverpool 1823) who travelled twice to Australia, presumably in the mid to late 19thC) and his son, George Fenn Stephenson (b Liverpool 1858), lived and owned land in the Cardwell, Murray River, Ayr and Bundaberg areas. George Fenn had a daughter, Nuninga Eleanor in Cardwell in 1895, by Nuninga (no other name stated), and a son Harry. We have a photograph of Cardwell School c 1905 which purports to show Harry Stephenson (an aboriginal Australian who looks to be around 7 years old) and other children plus adults whom we take to be teachers. We also have a photograph of Cardwell cricket team from around the same time, which is said to to include George Fenn Stephenson. A letter from Thomas describes his life in the Cardwell and Bundaberg areas; another, from George Fenn writing to his brothers on England, reports the death of his father in the Murray River in 1886. There are reputed to be other letters in the Australian archives but so far we have been unable to locate these. George Fenn Stephenson is listed in the Electoral Register, 1913, as a farmer at Bedford Creek, and also as a labourer at Ayr, Herbert Co,Queensland. Harold and Annie Isabel were living in Mungana, Chillagoe, Kennedy,Queensland in 1913, and we suspect they came out to Australia from Bebington or Liverpool in the late 1800s or early 1900s; on the electoral roll of 1913 the former was stated to be a clerk and the latter engaged in home duties. While in Australia they had at least two children, Isabel (who died in infancy in 1910) and Eileen Hope (b 1904). We would be very grateful indeed for any information on the above or their descendants. We would also like to know whether there is a source of information on the ships on which they traveled to Australia. Searches via Ancestry have so far revealed nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Happy to share info.

red mail Woods family search
Do you know anything about my Grandmother WOODS' family? She was born Mary Elizabeth WOODS in 1880 to mother, Eliza and father, Robert. Robert had been born in Ireland in abt 1855 and in 1877 was a Police Constable in Liverpool when he married Eliza(nee LINDSAY), also from Ireland b 1858. Robert's father, also Robert was a saddler. They them had Robert, b1882, James (after Lizzies father), b1885, David, b1887 and William, b1891. Eliza(Lizzie) died on 30.9.1893. A 'sister' M I Hand from Warwick Street, Toxteth Park,is the informant on the death certificate. Robert remarried to Clara Howes (a widow b Devon in c1864 on the marriage certificate although by the 1901 census she is born in 1858!) in June 1894. Her signature on the marriage certificate looks more like Hawes but the entry is Howes. The 1901 census lists a 'daughter' Dora b1980 in Liverpool who is probably Clara's from her previous marriage. Although the 1901 census gives Clara's place of birth as Plymouth, Devonshire, family lore has it that she came from Scotland. One problem is getting any info on the Irish details, also prior to 1881 I cannot find either Robert or Eliza in the census records so it looks like they arrived here after 1871 but before 1877. I have no idea exactly where in Ireland either of them are from, possibly Lisburn, when or why they came to England. The Royal Ulster Constabulary has a Robert Woods who emigrated in 1884 but the given age is wrong and he ended up in London anyway in 1891 so think this is a red herring. A James Woods witnessed Robert's marriage to Clara and a John Woods witnessed the marriage to Lizzie, possibly a brother? There must be descendents from Robert Jnr, James/Jamie and David/Davy Woods. Dora's descendents may also have information about what happened after 1901. It is believed that Robert returned to Lisburn, N Ireland after retirement, about 1920, where he died. Clara survived him and stayed in Ireland where she was visited on at least one occasion by one of Robert's Granddaughters. Her daughter Dora is believed to have died in a drowning accident. There's a lot to find out.Can anyone help?
red mail Mercer Family
Searching for any relations to my Grandfather, Christopher MERCER, born in 1878 in Liverpool, married to Mary Elizabeth WOODS b 1880.He died in April 1936 aged 58.I've traced his tree back to George Mercer b 1791. He had brothers George, b 1885, Samuel, b 1895 and a sister Mary b 1887. There was also a Henry b 1880 but I think he died aged 1, the other age gaps look odd .Parents George, b 1851 in Maghull and Eliza PENNINGTON b 1858 in Liverpool. My Mum had 2 Uncles and an Aunt on her father's side and we know nothing about them. He was a Clerk in 1903 when he married and a Docks Checker (deceased) in 1946 when Mum married Dad. He and Mary Elizabeth had 7 children one of which died aged 13 months. 5 girls survived and one boy, also Christopher. This Christopher was married twice. Firstly to Violet by whom he had a son, Paul, born c1952. Paul Mercer has also dropped off our radar and we are looking for him too. Christopher remarried but died and the 3 surviving sisters were not told until 3 months after the event and only when one of them managed to catch a neightbour after repeatedly failing to make contact. Only one of those sisters is still living.
red mail Looking for family history from Liverpool.
My grandfather was THOMAS K clarke, he was born in West Derby in 1915 and I think his mother was EDITH KEVAN, his father was possibly EARL clarke. I don't know about his brothers and sisters except for one, EDIE, she married a ? BARROW and lived in Norris Green. My grandmother was JOSEPHINE TASKER and her father was WILLIAM TASKER, I think her mother was MARGARET DALY/DALEY. My grandmother was possibly born in Kirkdale or Bootle in 1916. She had 3 brothers BILLY, who emigrated to Boston, CHARLIE and JOHN. My grandparents emigrated to Australia on the 1950's. If anyone has anything that will help in my search I'd be very grateful as so far I've drawn mostly blanks. Many thanks.

red mail George and Agnas Wilson
I'm looking for information on George and Agnas (also Agness) Wilson. George Wilson was born about June 1844 in England. Agnas was born about 1850. They left Liverpool on the ship Denmark bound for New York on April 30, 1869. They had children Elley and George in Pennsylvania in 1870 and 1873, respectively. They then returned to England for a visit, where their child Minnie was born in 1876. On the return trip to America in 1877, William Walter was born. They had two additonal children, Agnas and Jacob, in Pennsylvania in 1879 and 1882. I don't know what part of England they lived in, only that they left from Liverpool. I'm just hoping someone has a George in their tree that they know moved to America. Thanks.
