red mail Searching for TOWLES
My ancestor, Henry TOWLES, lived in Liverpool and left for America sometime around 1630, settling in Accomac County, Virginia. His descendants migrated from the Eastern Shore of Virginia to Middlesex Co., Virginia, and in 1737 moved to Orange and Culpeper Co., VA. A later generation moved to Ninety Six District, South Carolina in 1766. Apparently the family relationship with Liverpool continued, as references to trading goods with Liverpool are mentioned in family records several generations removed from Henry the Immigrant. I would like to identify the parents of Henry TOWLES and determine if any of the TOWLES family returned to Liverpool in the early to mid-1700's for schooling.

red mail Dr William Brown Thain
William Brown Thain, a Doctor qualified in Edinburgh in 1897 married Mary Mercer in 1910. Their son, Stuart Grenville Thain was born in Dyserth, N Wales later in 1910. Mary was 22 and pregnant when they married, W B Thain was 39 and previously married to Marion Jane Flood nee Sproule with at least one son,William Brown Reginald Flood Thain, born to his wife in 1900 and a daughter, Kathly Monica Tayleur Thain born to another woman, unknown, 6.6.1900 in Scotland and raised in Stobhall Castle. Mary and Thain at some point divorced and by 1930 she is living as a housekeeper to a 'Colonel' in Sussex, possibly Surrey. We know he travelled around the country being registered in N Wales, Manchester and Birmingham as well as London where he was a General Practitioner in 1901. We do not know how he and Mary met or the grounds for the divorce. Stuart was great friends with his cousin Christopher Mercer in Liverpool. Christopher later joined the army as a career soldier but we don't know what happened to Stuart. Mary retired back to Liverpool where I remember visiting her in a high rise in the late 50's, early 60's. Thain was awarded the Ashanti medal around 1901, stamped Gold Coast Constabulary. Do you have any info at all on the families mentioned? Jean

red mail Robert Molyneux
I'm trying to trace living relatives of Robert Molyneux. His family originally lived in Wellington Road, Toxteth, Liverpool, (Adjoining Greave Street)in the 1940s/50s. I believe Robert emigrated to Australia in the 1950s, but may well have returned to this country. Robert would now be in his late 80s/early 90s. I also have the following information, but cannot say if this is completely accurate. His father transported fruit and veg at the docks, so was possibly classed as a carter. There may have been 7 brothers and sisters -5 boys and two girls. One son died during the war. One of the sisters may have been called Jean. I'm hoping to find relatives living in the Liverpool area, or possibly Robert himself.

Im looking for any information on Thomas Hesketh (1891-1930?) he was my great grandfather, he lived on Grassmere St in the Anfield area of Liverpool. After serving in WW1 he became a tram driver in Liverpool before his death which was due to gas poisoning he suffered in WW1. He married Elizabeth Morris, whose father was George Morris. He also had a brother William Hesketh who married Nora who was a music teacher. Any information would be greatly appreciated as it is for my nan who is very interested, she is currently not well in hospital. In particular I am interested in a portrait of Thomas Hesketh which was apparently given to rogue salesmen by my grandfather who had conned him into believing it was going to be used as a prop on a tv show over 30 years ago! I hope it is still about somewhere, it apparently had his name inscribed in the bottom corner with his army uniform on, my mother remembers it well...please get in touch if you have any information at all.

Connolly, Powell
looking for information on Ann Connolly nee Powell who according to the 1881 census was living at 64, Crown Street, Liverpool. The census also states that her husband was a sailor at sea. Ann was born in about 1859 in Llandudno - although research into the Powell family does not reveal Ann's existence. However at the time of the census Jane Powell was staying at the house and is stated on the census return to be Ann's sister. I have records of Jane's birth. So can anybody tell me if indeed Ann was a sibling of Jane - whose parents were Daniel and Ann - and who was the Connolly that she was married to and if there are any descendents of this marriage.

red mail O'Brien - Brien family
In classic Ancestry style the O' has been omitted from a 1871 census entry for my GG Grandfather William O'Brien b 1831 in Dublin, Ireland and married to Ellen (surname unknown) b 1830 also in Ireland. He gets listed as William O Brien. The O' seems to get missed off from a lot of names so that O'Donnell becomes O Donnell etc. We wondered whether the Irish families in Liverpool considered it prudent to drop the O' in light of some prejudices? Proper historians out there may know more about this. Our William married Ellen and had William b1856 in Liverpool and Ann b1860 also in Liverpool. Ann married a David Morris and they had a daughter b1880. William jnr married Mary Ann Spence in 1881 and they had children Edith b1888 (my Grandmother), Ann b 1881, Mary E b1882, Sarah b 1884, William b 1890, Grace b 1894, Alex b1901 and Gloria. We know Grace remained unmarried and lived with Edith and her husband Timothy Evans. Sarah married a William Kophammel. William married Selina Williams but the other siblings are a mystery. Anything you can add to this would be appreciated.
