red mail Dynan/Dinan/Dinnin/Dinen etc who were Tailors in Lancashire.
Hi, I'm looking for help with Dynan/Dinan's in Liverpool and possibly Manchester in the early to mid 1800's. The oldest known relation is John Dynan/Dinan born abt 1806-12 in Ireland, possibly Co Cork, he was a Tailor by occupation. He's on the 1841 census with his family but then left his family in Liverpool and emigrated to the US arriving safely in late 1850 in New York, it appears he quickly died there according to his wife's 1851 Liverpool Census where she is listed as 'widow'. We cannot find anything other than his marriage in 1827 at the Cathedral Manchester to Ann Parry ( no parents listed), the 1841 English census and then his arrival in New York, we cannot find his parents or his death registered anywhere and it's very frustrating! He/they had four children that we know of, but maybe even eight or more between 1827-1845, John, Charles, Griffith and Ann. I know the lines down from these children, except for John born abt 1829-31 in Anglesey, Wales who is on the 1851 census living with his maternal Grandparents. (I'm trying not to get side tracked..but John 'junior' may also go to the US later and die in the Battle of Bull Run/Manassas in 1861, or he could be the person in the family tale who 'fell' overboard off a ship and drowned, maybe trying to save a colleagues life...another puzzle.) I'm now pinning my hopes on the fact John 'senior' is listed as a Tailor on any documentation we have seen. Curiously in Lancashire at that time there appears to be a few Dynan/Dinan/Dinnin/Dineen men who were all Tailors, so I'm hoping there is some link, they maybe related ie. if his brothers then trained in the family business in Ireland, if his sons then trained pre 1841 census and out working elsewhere etc! Does anyone know anything about these other men who were tailors: William Dynan who married Mary Dansall in 1835, Edward Dinnin who married Margaret Holburn in Rochdale in 1851 and his father also called Edward was a tailor too, Nicholas Dynan who married Mary Simmons/Sommers in 1851 in Bolton and his father was John Dynan also a tailor and maybe our John or not, and Robert Dinnen who was a tailor and also the father of Robert John Dinnen (a tailor)who married Mary Ann Piper in 1885 in Salford) incase a family link starts to appear? Also in Liverpool about the same time were two sisters, Mary Dynan marrying James Walsh in 1834 and Bridget Dynan marrying John Lyons (a Tailor!) in's possible these two could be relations also. Does anyone know anything at all that could help me break through this wall? My parents tried for years pre the Internet using old records and churchyard visits etc and I've been trying for at least 20 yrs now! Any help or guidance of any sort would be fantastic, Thank you. Lynn

It would seem he was always referred to as Joe and he was in the army where he served in Egypt prior to WW2. Up till then he was still single, though he may have married from about 1940 onwards. He definitely survived the war. However, after this time all trace from may side of the family seems to have been lost and I don't even know whether he stayed in the Liverpool area. I know there was little, if any, contact with his brother Andrew (my grandfather) and his sister Mary, and brother James have long since died leaving no children. However, he may have retained some contact with his sister Elizabeth who married a Richard BROWN. They and their children moved to the Huyton area of Liverpool in the late 1940s or early 1950s. red mail Mrs J Gertrude (Gertie) Corfe
Please does anyone have any information about the above lady? She was apparently a violinist with the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and was married to another member of the Orchestra? I am her grand-daughter and eager to obtain a photograph of her which was taken during her days with the orchestra, it is a head portrait holding a violin. The picture held in the Archives shows that of a man (!). I believe that her husband passed away after only a short time and she moved to live in Deganwy, she died about 1965ish when I was about 6. I vaguely remember this photograph, it was destroyed by my Mother's stepmother which is why I am keen to replace it, Mother is 87 in February. Thank you.

I have a First Class, Silver medallion issued by the Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society dated 1839 on the Medallion. The outside band holding the glass pieces on is engraved as follows: To Mr. Wm Hughes, Master Pilot, for rescuing Crew of Sloop Elizabeth, in a heavy gale, off Ormshead 13th Oct 1849. Its in the original case and appears to have had the glass replaced on the dated side. I have a letter from the Secretary of the Society, a Mrs. Christine Collins, along with a photocopy of the minutes where the award was noted. I'm looking for his ancestors.

red mail Lafield Larfield Layfield
William Lafield born 1808 in Liverpool and emigrated to Australia in 1833, according to his death certificate. No separate evidence yet found to support death certificate birth date, birth place or emigration dates. Because Liverpool was a frequent departure point for Irish emigration, he may have Irish origins. No immigration document has been found, so the name may also be changed. His children used Lafield, Larfield and Layfield surnames.

red mail Parents of John Joseph Malone
Looking for any family ties to John Joseph Malone, born July 1866 in Liverpool, Lancashire. Other previous family had a birthplace listing for him as Whitehorse, England, but I can't seem to validate that is or was a valid place at all. In searching, I found a Birth Index for him in Liverpool, and feel this 'might' be him. His Colorado death certificate, in which he died on Feb 3, 1901, lists a father as Michael Malone, and a mother of Ellen Malone. Ellen's maiden name is very hard to read on the death certificate, but it looks like it could either be Meach, Meech, or the last letter might even be a K. John J Malone married one Margaret Celina McQuillan in what appears to be 1886. The 1900 US Census has them IN the United States for 14 years, and has their years married as 14 years as well. It is hard to tell if they were married here in the States, or in England prior to coming to the USA the same year. I have searched, but cannot seen to find any marriage information on them. John and Margaret had several children, these include Phillip, Michael Clifford, William Joseph, Anna Mae, Belle, John Gilbert, Ella Bernice and Clara. Michael, Phillip, William and Anna were born in Michigan, and Belle, John , Ella and Clara were all born in Creede, Colorado. However, they do list, on the 1900 US Census, that Michael was born in Pennsylvania. I do have a Michigan birth certificate that shows a Michael born in May of 1889 with John and Margaret as his parents. Margaret's obituary does say that she came to the US at the age of 13, and has her living in Pennsylvania and Colorado. The 1900 US Census says she came over in 1886. Her estimated Birth year is 1870. Hoping someone might recognize this family from another branch and may be able to help fill in some details. Very willing to exchange any information I have as well.
