red mail MILLS - HOLLINWOOD
I am seeking information on Horatio Mills of Hollinwood. I have a burial card that shows he died on October 21, 1854 and was interred at St Margaret's Chapel, Hollinwood - 'in the 56th year of his age'. His death certificate states he was a labourer aged 45 years! The cause of death was 'injuries received on his neck by accidently falling down the stairs of a public house at Hollinwood'. This was the Bridgewater Hotel run by Joel Carrington at 197 Manchester Road, Hollinwood which had opened the same year. My grandfather had Horatio's burial card amongst his belongings, but I cannot connect him to my other Mills lines in nearby areas such as Newton Heath, Oldham and Failsworth. Does anyone have this Horatio Mills in their tree?
red mail WHITE SWAN - HOLLINWOOD
I am seeking details of the Mills family connected to the White Swan, Hollinwood. The pub first appeared in local directories in 1836, and the Mills family took the licence of the White Swan in 1842. Samuel Mills was succeeded by his wife Charlotte (nee Ogden) Mills in 1857, and then their son Ogden took over in 1873 to 1902. By this time the pub was owned by Frank Whitehead. Does anyone have information or photos of the Mills family?
