red mail Clarkson family
I am doing a study of Goosnargh and would like to trace any descendants of this family in and around this village. William Clarkson in the 1851 and 1861 census was an innkeeper, shoemaker and farmer resident at the Bushells Arms. In later censuses he is also a sexton of the local church and postmaster. His son John was also a shoemaker and sexton. One of the addresses they lived at is Pear Tree Cottage, Church Lane, also known as Post Office cottage. Any information or photos would be very welcome.
red mail Goosnargh Local History
I am researching the history of Goosnargh and the surrounding area for a proposed book and I have also registered with the Register of one place studies. red mail higginson
I am researching the higginson family from Reddish in Stockport. I have traced the family through 5 generations to the early 1800s when they first appeared in Reddish. There was a James Higginson who was born in Goosnargh in 1757. I cannot get any info on him except that he had a son named Mark Higginson who was born somewhere in Lancs possibly in Goosnargh in 1787 and died in Leigh Lancs in 1847. Mark was married to Ann Smalley and they had six children. Ann. Mark Jane. Joseph. Thomas and Mary. The name of James wife was Jane born 1761 but that is all the info i have on her. Any info would be great. Thanks Dave

I am trying to trace my Wallbank ancestry but have come to a dead end with my great grandfather Robert Wallbank.I believe he was born in Goosnargh, lancashire around 1852 and am told he was one of eleven children. He moved to west cumbria after leaving school and settled in the Bootle/Millom area (he is shown on the 1871,1881 and 1891 censuses). He married Hannah Stafford in 1882 in Bootle,Cumbria.I cannot find any pre 1871 information on him and was wondering if anyone can help.

anybody got links to Rigby family in this area? My earliest date is Nicholas b. 1749 m.Joan Carter 1774.Most of the family stayed in this area until mid-1800's.
Dewhurst / Grayston connection?
My 3G Grandfather was George Dewhurst bc.1811 in Goosnargh. His marriage certificate, interestingly, has his father as being Thomas Grayston. I cannot find any ref to a Thomas Grayston of the area at the time. There's a couple of different baptisms of a George Dewhurst in Goosnargh around 1809, one of which is to Ann Dewhurst (no father listed) 28 Jan 1809 at St Francis and Hill Chapel (RC). This is a distinct possibility of being the right person, although he should really be a year older in many of the census returns.
