My 2xgreat-grandfather was Ralph Allen-married to Mary Balmer in 1842. They lived in Golborne. Ralph Allens father was John Allen, dont know who his mother was. Mary's father was Samuel Balmer-married to Ellen Hill in 1802. Ralph and Mary had several children, one of them, John, was my geat-grandfather who became a policeman and married Emma Mullins in Wigan in 1866. Their children that I know of were William Henry,(born Wigan) John,(born Liverpool)) Samuel(born Huddersfield) Eda(also Huddersfield,died in infancy) and Emma (born Golborne) In the 1890s Emma Allen (the mother) by then a widow ran a pub, The Prince of Wales in Golborne High St. and a few years later she ran Coffee and Cocoa Rooms also in High st. William Henry became a music teacher and John became a miner, both living in Golborne. They both had families. Samuel left Golborne and became an actor; in 1901 in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, he married Florence Bolton an actress. Samuel and Florence were my grandparents. Hoping to hear from other descendents of any of these people.

My g/g grandfather was William Foster, sometimes Bennett.He was the illegitmate son of Richard Bennett and Scholastical Foster, hence the use of two surnames. He was born in Golborne in 1799, and I got hold of a filiation document in which Richard acknowledged that William was his son and promised to provide for him. Richard came from Cheshire and was a shoemaker. I know nothing about Scholastical despite the strange name. Anything would be great. Thanks, G.

Looking for information on Esther TWIST b. 27/04/1813 in Golborne. Esther married George Edwardson on 07/04/1833 at St. Oswald, Winwick. Esther & George had two children: Alice and Ellen. George Edwardson died 10/12/1840. Esther remarried to William Nicholson on 25/12/1849 (witnessed by Peter Ashcroft & Samuel Twist). Esther & William had two children: Alice (born c. 1851) and William (b. 12/09/1854). From Esther & William's marriage cert. Esther's father is Joseph Twist. I don't know where and when Joseph was born or who Esther's mother was. Any information on the TWIST's would be great. Cheers.

Interested in particular in Thomas Hill (1849-1920), who married Elizabeth Ashcroft, and any earlier relatives, including Thomas' mother, Martha Hill (c1811-1883), her siblings inc. John Whalley's parents were John Whalley and Hanna. John was born in Salford and his parents later moved to Lowton and then to Golborne. I would appreciate contact with anyone searching this family.

Looking for any information at all about William Williams, resident at 72 Bank St, Golborne in the early 1900s. SIx children - Arthur, Herbert, Rhoda, Ada, May and Frank. Apparently he was born in Australia in the 1870s and was taken back to the UK where his mother died and he was fostered out. He lived until the 1970s.
