PRESTON George Harold
I am seeking information regarding George Harold Preston who was born in1879 in Eccleshall Sheffield but who lived in Eccles Manchester in 1911. He married Maria Atkinson that year and served in the Manchester Regiment during WW1 . He was a builder by trade but unable to find further trace of him or Maria after 1911. It is possible he may have lived in the Bolton area in later life. Any help would be appreciated.

I would love to have contact with Gwen . I knew of a girl called Gwen Riley she lived in Eccles. We met in North wales about late 1950's. My grandma and grandad had a caravan Rhyl, then Conway, then Penryn Bay nr Llandudno, I think it was when we were at conway that we played togeather in our younger days. although Gwen may probably be married so has a different surname which of course I do not know.

If someone lived within the Eccles Parish boundary in 1875 would they be entitled to be married by Banns in St. Mary's, the Parish church of Eccles and is this the same as the parish of St. Mary's ? My g. grandfather was maried by Banns in St. Mary's in 1875 and his future wife, Alice Fare was living at 53, Eccles Old Road, at the junction of Weaste Lane when the Banns were read.

I have just found out that my sister and I have a half brother Richard Edward Richards,born 1919 in Eccles Barton Upon Irwell, I believe his mother died about 1922,we share the same Father. I'm trying to find out if Charles FORSHAW and wife Hannah Maria ABBOTT had any children while living in Eccles in the earlly 1900's. On the 1901 census Charles & Hannah Maria are living at 1 South King Street, Eccles with no children listed as living with them. Charles was born 03/05/1871 in Haydock, Lancs. Hannah Maria was born c.1871 also in Haydock, Lancs. On the 1901 census Charles & Hannah Maria are living in the ecclesiastical district of Patricroft Christ Church. I was wondering if any children of Charles & Hannah Maria's were baptised at this church or any other local church. I currently know of only one child of Charles & Hannah Maria: Harry FORSHAW born c. 1898 in Haydock (Harry was living with his maternal grandparents on the 1901 census). Alice Hampson born 1760 in Eccles, dau of Samuel Hampson, a Cordwainer & his wife Ellen (nee Darbyshire). Alice married John Collier, son of David Collier, at St Mary's, Eccles, in 1779 and they had 12 children. John Collier and his father David Collier were both clockmakers in Cheadle & Gatley. John died in 1816, Alice in 1841, and both are buried in St Mary's, Cheadle. I should like to hear from any descendants.

My gt gt gt grandparents, James Higham married Sarah Ann Green on 3 Jan 1841 in St Mary's Church, Eccles. Both were stated to be of that parish. James' father was a Henry Higham, a weaver, while Sarah's father was a John Green, a sailor. This family has proved particularly elusive and I know little about their early life. Mary was born in Eccles in 1834 (IGI and birthday book) Father James (Marriage cert) Can't find the family. Married in Swindon, Wilts in 1857 to William COX. Cousins say she was adopted by relatives in Swindon. I know her movements from marriage to death in 1917. Can anyone help please? Not in 1851 Wilts census.

He used to be the grave digger there and was known as "Old Robin" to the locals of Eccles. His last known address was 1 Park Street Salford. John Piper Hathorn. Born ca. 1811. Died Natal 4th August 1872. The emigrant. Arrived with his young family in Natal 4th July 1852 on 'The Henrietta' sailing from Liverpool. Married Eccles 16th May 1842 Hannah Howard Walton (born 26th May 1818, died 25th May 1879). I know a certain amount about the genealogy of this family once they reached Natal, in what we know today as South Africa. One of their daughters in law was Agnes Elizabeth Blaikie 1853 - 1894. I am interested to know more, especially (though not exlusively), about their earlier provenance in north west England (apparently) and about any descendant branches who did not go to Natal.
