red mail Birthplace in Scotland
I have had a request before for this surname and thank you to anyone who responded like the lady who suggested it might be a corruption of a Scottish name. I researched the name and it would appear it does arise in England. Martha Sharples, nee Cleworth said on the 1871 Elton, Lancashire census she was born in "Luce Lathers", (that is what it appears to say) but I can't find this place or anything similar on any current maps. Can anyone help or suggest where/what it might be.

red mail Cleworth and Sharples
Martha Cleworth was born in 1783 and said on the 1851 census that she was born in SCOTLAND. She was married to Jeremy Sharples 24 June 1804 at St Mary's, Bury and had 11 children. She died at Summerseat Lancashire in 1875. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO TRACE ANY CLEWORTH'S IN SCOTLAND. Her mother Mary was also born out of Lancashire in 1749 but died in 1848 so no birthplace is known. Mary was married to John Cleworth who may have been born in Lancashire, he died in 1822 and is buried in St Mary's, Bury. I have not been able to find a marriage for John and Mary so have no idea if it took place in Lancashire. I believe John and Mary had two other children Joseph and Dinah. Joseph married Mary Howarth in 1812 and they had 7 children. Dinah married John Troughton from Westmorland and had 4 children.

HAWORTH & DAVISON calico printers c1780
Can anyone please help me find parents or relations for the following two couples? John Haworth, calico printer, married Ann Davison on 10 Nov 1794 at Bury St Marys: Richard Haworth, calico printer, married Hannah Davison at St Marys on 22 April 1806. Both Davisons were from a calico printing family in Carlisle. Richard was born in 1786/87 and gave his birthplace as Rossendale in censuses until his death in 1870. According to the 1841 census John was born in Lancashire in 1772/73. John and Richard are too close in age to be father and son: they may be brothers, or uncle and nephew or more distant relations. They both lived in Ramsbottom in the 1819s and close to Bury Ground printworks in the 1840s. They seem to have been C of E but I have not found a baptism for either. Does anyone have these two Haworths in their family, or have any pointers to who their parents were? Logically their father(s) would have been calico printers in the 1770s and 1780s, which could provide a clue as to location eg Crawshawbooth and/or Accrington and Darwen. Thanks Stephen
