A death of Betty in 1804 shows relationship as daughter of Holland. Could this be wife? Holland Worthington identified as father of illegitimate children of Betty Smith and Martha Smith. Did this Betty marry Holland and is Betty the sister of Martha? Love the search.
Alice ENGLISH, born Bolton 1884 - father Henry. . .
Alice DANSON, nee ENGISH (1884-1945) was my grandmother, wife of William Danson of Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire. My mother was very vague on Alice's background. I believe she was born in Bolton and went to Poulton as maid to the Potts family, prominent Methodists. However I have failed to find a birth certificate. - no record at Bolton Registrar or in online indexes - so I do not know the name of her mother. I had to wait until 1911 to find her definitely in a census, which gives Bolton as her birthplace. We shared the same birthday of 23rd September and her birth year of 1884 is confirmed by the 1911 census & 1939 Register entry and her marriage certificate of 1907 where her father was listed as Henry English, a painter (deceased). Alice's age on her death certificate also confirms the 1884 birth year. I have had no success in tracing her in the 1891 census. In 1901 she could be the living in domestic servant in Stockport - which of course takes me no further forward. Is there any adjacent area to Bolton where her birth could possibly be registered? Any help to find more knowledge of Alice much appreciated.
