Looking for Smiths in Birtle, and Bury, pre 1770.
My ancestor, Thomas Smith, born in Birtle, is said to have walked as a boy, from Birtle to Helmshore, where he got work as a weaver. This would have been around the 1770's. I am interested in finding out about the family he left behind. His father was Thomas Smith, his mother Betty (Hamer), both born in Bury.
red mail Ormrod - Birtle Bleach Works
Am looking for info on Oliver Ormrod and descendants. His appx dates are 1862 - 1909. We think his father (also Oliver) owned the bleachworks in Birtle and this Oliver ran the business. He was married to an Emily or Emilie Valerie DuPree and they adopted 2 sons. One of them was my grandfather. Oliver might also have had a natural born son who died at an early age. Am looking for any and all info to fill in the gaps!
