red mail The mysteries of Henry Cowburn
I am looking for details on the birth and marriages of Henry Cowburn, born in Atherton c1835. I know that he married Ann (possibly but not deffinitely Smith) and had 5 children: Ellen, Martha, James, Alice, Louisa. I am very confused about his birth which may have been illigitimate? I have found a birth matching his profile listed as born to 'single woman' Ellen Cowburn. However, on the 1851 census he is living as 'son' to John and Alice Cowburn. Also, I think that he later remarried Grace Roper (also known as Whittle and Lucas at different times due to previous marriages). Any help appreciated - I'm stuck!
