I am trying to trace the family of my great grandmother Helena Scully nee Saunders( born around 1865). Her mother was Ellen Saunders, father I think- Martin. I think Ellen and Martin came from Ireland and their first child, Mary, was born in Chester. They lived in Accrington/Haslingden/Burnley and had a son-in-law named Gerreighty or Garrity. The 1841 and 1851 censuses show he and his mother were living with Abraham Birtwell at Union Street Accrington. Birtwell is a very unusual first name, could Abraham Birtwell have been his father? Birtwell Sutcliffe married Sara Handley 03/07/1858 in the Wesleyan Chapel Haslingden before he immigrated to NZ in 1859 on the "William Watson". I am trying to find any information about Alice & Richard Prout and their daughters Joan & Edith (my 2nd Cousins). They all lived in Clayton Le Moors in Dale Street or very close to it. Alice was born in 1895 & Richard was born in 1900. Alice's maiden name was Holt. Possibly the daughter of John Holt 1870 and Mary Ann Pickering 1870. Joan born 1928 and Edith born 1932 ? Richard Prout was born out of wedlock to Eliza Ann Prout. Her parents were Edwin Williams Prout 1854 and Martha Emily Abraham 1856. Joan I believe married a Gareth ????. I have no idea what happened to Edith but believe she married someone who was in the Army. My g.grandfather was John Dixon b. Greenwich 1861 and married Elizabeth Ellen Pilkington 1881 at St John the Evangelist Accrington. He had several children inc. my grandfather, Heyworth,James Herbert b. 1886, Eli b. 1890 and Stanley b. 1892. Elizabeth died 1895 and I think John re-married a Sarah Lomax and they had another child, Doris. Can anybody confirm this and also what happened to James Herbert, Eli and Stanley. John had to have Heyworth, and Eli adopted after his wife died and I have no records of there wherabouts after that date. Thank You.

He married Hannah (Annie)Lane in 1896. They had a son, George, born in 1898. They emigrated to Brooklyn, New York, USA, in 1907, along with Hannah's daughter from a prior marriage, Mary Jane and her husband, Alfred Wilkinson, and, their children. They settled in Brooklyn, NY. Martha Davies (dob not known) married Joseph Cronshaw Dean b 1900 Accrington on 20th April, 1921, in Knuzden. No record of this marriage has been found. Grateful for any information that may be forthcoming. They may have had a son, Joseph J Dean(?) born 1922. They separated/divorced ?when. Joseph Dean was a motor mechanic and was the son of Susan Ann Dean (nee Cronshaw) and Joseph Dean who lived at 62 Sultan Street at the time of his birth. Other brothers and sisters of Joseph were Alice Mabel b 1888, Walter b 1892, Hilda b 1897. Have other names for this family (Dean) back to 1795 if anyone requires them.

Looking for information on the siblings of Thomas Needham (b 1876). His mother, Mary Cahill, died at his birth and he was unofficially fostered to the Hughes family. His father, Joseph, was an Insurance Agent at the turn of the century. Thomas had four siblings, James, Mary Ellen, Elizabeth and Joseph but I don't know whether he was aware of that. Joseph later re-married to Mary Knowles.

Looking for relatives and information on Sydney H Street who owned a Rruit and Rabbit shop on Washinton St, Accrington which opened in 1909. His wife's name was Susannah Smith, they married in 1889. Their children were Bertha, Francis, Ethel, Annie and Robert. Ethel iwas my paternal grandmother who married Harold Ashworth. Sydney Street was also a "Special Constable" in the Accrington Constabulary. He was also involved in the 1939-45 war (World War II). Robert Waterworth, born 1810/1815 was my g.g.grandfather. He married Nancy Hartley on 7th October 1833 at St Mary Blackburn. I have found him on the 1841 census for Chorley but cannot trace him on any other census. His wife was in Chorley in 1851and then moved to Accrington and I have found her and their children on 1861, 1871 and 1881. I believe Robert died in 1873 (awaiting death certificate)but do not know where he was born. Their son James Waterworth (my g.grandfather) married Hannah Maria Clark(e).
