I am looking for relatives of Charles Humphrey of Strood who ran or his relatives ran shoe repair/boot making shops. The Chas Humphrey I have was born approx 1897 in Kettering and was I believe married twice, the second time to my grandmother Beatrice Mary Kitchingham/Tompsett. His family appear to have been in the shoe trade for several generations mainly in the Kettering area. Does this link up with anyone elses tree?

1891 cencus shows the Gilpin family headed by Charles C Gilpin living in Civil Parish of Strood and Municipal Borough of Rochester. Claude C Gilpin was aged 10 having been born in 1881 in Dover. He later married Emily Caroline Bryant in 1902 in Hampstead. He surved during WW1 with the Royal Garrison Artillery. Does anyone know what happened to him after WW1 as I believe he may have survived. Looking for relations/information regarding the Brazier/Barnard family. My great grandparents, Alfred James Brazier and Emily Ellen Barnard had numerous children between 1883 and 1912. My grandmother, Mabel Brazier (Barnard) was one of them, born in Strood in Dec of 1900. The address given at this time for the family was 7 Hone Rd.....I also have a reference to Gordon Road Girls School where my grandmother Mabel attended (at least in 1911)....she may have had a sister Gladys also attending with her....does anyone have any info? The family seems to have used both names...Barnard and Brazier at different times....they came to Canada in 1912.

From The new and Complete British Traveller 1784 p 020 Stroud Is contiguous to Rochester being separated from it only by the bridge over the Medway. Gilbert Glanville, the Bishop of Rochester erected an hospital for the sick and indigent, and for poor travellers, which he dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and gave it the appellation of the New Work. Sick travellers were allowed food, lodging, and physic till their recovery or death. Yet at the suppression the revenue was only valued at £52-9s-10d annually. Note - Gilbert Glanville died in 1214, being elected Bishop in 1185.
