I have a whole cluster of connections - Dennis/Dennes, Kidney, Reader, Mark, Partridge and others, who lived at Station Road, Rainham, all related, one way or another to the Wheatley family of Thames barge captains, working out of Rainham Creek. Many are buried at Rainham St Margaret's and I would love to hear from anyone who has background knowledge of Rainham during the 19th Century, both town and creek.

Phillips Family
The birth certificate for my maternal grandmother, Ann Phillips, states that she was born 3rd May 1884 Registration District Milton, Sub District Milton, County of Kent and the Superintendent Registrar was for the District of Sittingbourne. Her father is shown as Thomas Phillips, brickfield labourer,(she has stated that her father's names were Thomas James Phillips on her marriage certificate). Her mother is shown on the birth certificate as Elizabeth Phillips formerly Barnes. The address given is Street, Rainham,, R.S.D. and her mother who was the informant signed with the mark of an X. I have been unable to find anything about Ann's parents or siblings she may have had. Ann came to Sydney Australia approx 1907 where she married Afred John Rickwood who was from 14 Caroline's Row Upchurch. My grandfather's family was so easy to trace back that I'm quite mistefied as to why I can't find anything in the 1891 census when Ann would have been about 7 years old. The only Thomas James Phillips in the area I can find was born Jan/Feb/March 1852 Hoo, Kent Volume 2a Page 263 Image 123. The only Elizabeth Barnes in the area is Oct/Nov/Dec 1838 District Hoo, County Kent, Volume 5 Page 240, Image 34. This would make her 14 years older than her husband and 46 years old when she gave birth to my grandmother which seems a bit unlikely?
