red mail Amies - Maidstone, Loose, East Farleigh
The Amies were a prolific family, the main Kent concentration are in Maidstone, Boxley Loose and East Farleigh but there are connections with Cranbrook and Chatham. At present I am stuck on Joseph Amies b 1754, he was buried in Maidstone in 1825. He married Mary Tooth in All Saints, Maidstone in 1776. Mary Tooth's parents were Walter Tooth and Martha Devere. I have found a baptism for a Thomas Amies b 1752 in Hollingbourne son of John Amies and Mary. So far no other Amies entries in Hollingbourne. But perhaps by the time Joseph was born they'd moved. Any info re Joseph Amies b 1754 would be greatly appreciated. I have a great deal of information from 1777 on the Amies and would be happy to share.
I am looking for any details about Richard Dillon who was born around 1860s possibly in Maidstone Kent.
red mail Marchants in Maidstone
Looking for information on the Marchant family. My great grandfather Robert b1828 and his brother William b1830 were both mariners of some kind, we think on barges. Robert married, maybe a Mary Jane Gosling, but we have to assume she died because he later married in Liverpool. William married Mary? and at some time lived in Waterside and in Faith st. There is a record of a William as captain of a barge called The Brothers in London. He is shown in the 1891 census living with Robert and his family in Liverpool.
Sturges, probably bakers, in and around Maidstone. Later seemed to have moved to Middlesex.
red mail Glover - from Kent (don't know where)
My ggg grandfather, Henry Glover, arrived at Port Adelaide on HMS Henry Porcher in July 1838 from Cornwall. I assume that his was an unassisted passage, as I cannot find any details of his former life in the UK prior to boarding the boat. His eldest son George had a number of articles written about him and in one of them he mentioned that his father had come from Kent (not sure where) - hence my reasoning that I should look there for the extensions to my family tree. I was thinking of the electoral registers that commenced in 1832 - are these able to be researched? I think that the earliest census was in 1841, so they won't give any clues. I have the British Isles Vital Records Index on CD Rom, but these haven't been any help so far because I don't know the names of Henry's parents or if he had any siblings. Henry's future wife, Ann Thomas was also on the Henry Porcher, and like Henry there is no information. Henry was born c1808 and Ann c1826. I would like to hear from anyone who may have some info.
I am descended from a Thompson family who lived in Maidstone. If you are connected to a Thompson family in the Maidstone Area I would love to hear from you.

red mail stevens - shelvertons
My great grandfather Thomas Stevens was born in about 1857 in Maidstone, Kent . He married Elizabeth Shelvertons who was born in Chelsea in about 1854. I am not sure whether they lived in Maidstone or Ashford or elsewhere in Kent..He was a gardener. They emigrated to Australia ( IÕm not sure when or on what ship) and my Grandfather Joseph Stevens was born on the 6th October 1887 in Freeman Street Melbourne. He had three siblings Thomas b 1881 Lavinia b 1883 & William b 1885 and then John (Jack)Arthur and Alice. They moved to Perth and then on to South Africa and some returned to Perth. That side of the family died without issue and we are the only known relatives. Could anyone shed some light on any other relatives from Kent. Did they also emigrate to Australia ? I would also like to find out if there were any relatives of those convicts sent to Aus as there are plenty of StevensÕ sent to Perth and other penal colonies who had been convicted and sentenced in London.
red mail Crowhurst, Hill, Fairband - Maidstone
Looking for my g-great grandfather, James Crowhurst, born approx. 1823 in Maidstone. He married Elizabeth James Crowhurst, born 1825 in Willesden (London?). The 1881 census shows James and Elizabeth living at Norton Hall, Norton, Northamptonshire, where he was a coachman. The 1901 census shows them living at the Causeway, Mere, Wiltshire, with their grandson, Hugh S. Fairband. James died in 1903 and Elizabeth continued to live there until her death in 1919. Though they had several children, theonly one I know for sure is my great-grandfather, William Elmore Crowhurst, born 1844 in Maidstone (who moved to the San Francisco, California, area as a young man). He worked at Len Pontet's tailor shop after WWII. His father, Wally, was a typesetter and photolithographer who bounced his family between Englandand Canada during the Depression to keep employed.
