Groombridge family in Foots Cray, Kent
Although my Groombridge ancesters originally came from Horsham, Sussex, my great-great-great-grandfather Allen Groombridge married Hariet Leal and moved to Foots Cray. His son was George (1834-1884) who married Emma Ann Ayling, a well-known Bromley family, and their son was Alfred William (1866-1942) who was the last of the local Groombridge broom-makers. His son (1891-1955), born George, changed his name to Garth, had a cycle repair shop in Blackfen Road, Bexley. Apparently there was another Groombridge family in Foots Cray, one of whom was named Frederick (1860-1946) and a Alfred William Groombridge who was killed in the First World War, aged 22, but as yet I do not think these are related. Anyone with knowledge of Groombridges in the Cray Valley area, please contact me
