red mail Patching Family
Anyone Related? Lydia Patching was born 1791 and died at Faversham in 1832 aged 41. Her husband was a sailor named Thomas Patching. I believe they had two children together, son Thomas Patching (master mariner of Hull and Liverpool) born in Mundesley 1819 and daughter Elizabeth Ann Patching born in Faversham 1822. There is also a connection with Richard Patching (master mariner) born in Faversham 1833, Richard was lost at sea in 1874 when his ship 'The Calcutta' caught fire. His wife Emma re-married and became Emma Wright. Her daughter Helena married Authur McCombe in Liverpool.

I was brought up by my Uncle, Charles Earnest Stevens, b. 17th March 1899, who married Ruth Norris at Whitstable on 28th/29th June maybe 1926-1928. They had no children. My Uncle lived in Athlestone Road before his marriage. He had two sisters, Dorothy, married Horace Wise (no children) and Gladys, married John Higgins, with three children Jean, John and Jim. Charles's father worked at the Gunpowder mill in Faversham, and I believe was there when the explosion took place. He subsequently suffered mental problems. Don't know his name, nor anything about his wife's family. Audrey

red mail James Gilbert Turner
James Gilbert Turner on his Marriage Certificate 1886 that he was 44yrs old, born Kent, his father was John Turner, mother was Elizabeth Gilbert. His death certificate in 1898 says he was born in Faversham, also says he was 48yrs old. I cannot find record of this. An article in a newspaper says he was born in Hoo. James was a Surveyor and he says his father was an Architect. In the 1840's if he was born in Hoo, where would the closest Registration district be? Help please!! There must have been some significance in the Gilbert name as he has named his son George Gilbert Turner. All the information I have comes from Australian Records.

red mail Pepper - Faversham (Kent)
Hi. Most of my dads family originated from Faversham but any information for sharing would be useful. I am particuarly stuck when I get back to Richard Pepper b1781. My dad was Bernard John Pepper 1925 - 2001 and my mum was Doris Deadman 1936 - 2002 however my dad was married before to Annie Georgina Groves 1928 - 1977 and they had 5 children (my half brother & 4 sisters). My dad had 2 borthers that I know of Brian Stewart Pepper 1935-1977 and Peter Thomas Pepper 1923-1999 although I know nothing about either of them. His parents and my grandparents were Thomas Alfred Pepper b1899 and Rhoda Lucy Brice 1903-1975 and again I know little about them and never met them. Thomas' parents and my great grandparents were Alfred George Pepper 1868-1945 and Elizabeth J Karn 1870-1952 and again details about them are sketchy. Alfred's Parents and my gg Grandparents (and this is where is gets a bit interesting) were Thomas Pepper 1823-1896 and Sophia Ellis 1826-1859. They had 4 children before Sophia died and they were Albert James Pepper b1850, Edmund Pepper b1853, Mary Ann Elizabeth Pepper born and died 1857 and Walter Pepper for whom I have no info, and Thomas John Pepper 1849-1905. He married Mary Young 1855-1899 and had 2 children Alice Maud M Pepper 1836-1907 and Augusta Mary M Pepper b1889. I know nothing about them at all. Thomas did remarry after Mary's death to Emily Green. He was a hotellier and publican and ran the Little Crown pub in Chatham High Street which is still there! Thomas Pepper remarried also after Sophia's death to Ann Luckhurst and that is when they had Alfred as well as William Charles Pepper b1866 and Hester Pepper b1864. Again I have no info about any of them. And finally onto my ggg Grandparents and Thomas' parents which was Richard Pepper b1781 and he was married to either Hannah or Esther (or possibly both) and this is where my trail stops and I have no information about either of them. The Pepper's were all either Mariners which included both the Royal Navy and Merchant Navy. Thomas Alfred Pepper worked on the Atlantic Convoys during the war, or they were shoe/boot makers. Any information you can provide would be gratefully received. I do believe that I also have a half brother who was born around 1970 in the Snodland area of Kent which until recently I knew nothing about. I dont have any information though. I plan to visit Faversham later this year (I now live in Doncaster) to do a tour of the graveyards so any information you have would be incredibly helpful. Thanks Matt

red mail Francis/Frances James & ?Amy 1830's
This family lived in F. in at least 1827-1841. James FRANCIS/ES was a musician. In the 1841 census his children ranged from aged 15-5 (Edward, Ellen, Julia, Charles,John, Amy, Agnes). By 1851 James was living with his sons in Bermondsey, Surrey. I'm guessing his wife (perhaps an Amy) died between 1836-51 and am hoping she died in Faversham. Would love to know if there is an X FRANCIS (possibly Amy) who died between those dates. When? Where is she buried? Would also like to check for a marriage between her and James prior to 1825. May also have been in Ruckinge or somewhere else in Kent. Thank-you for any help you can give in solving this mystery.

red mail Holmes
I have traced my family back to Faversham in the 1800s. Walter Robert Holmes came to Australia in 1856 with his wife Ellen (Eleanor) Eden to start my family tree over here. Walter was a sailor with his father Robert around 1845 and were both born at Faversham, Walter on May 10th 1829 and Robert around Nov 1804. Robert was the son of George and Mary Lydia Holmes and married Jane Smith in May of 1826. Walter may have had a brother George born around Feb 1832 and a sister Frances born around 1837.
