I am trying to find any information about my great grandmother Catherine Light. She was born in Portballintrae in Ireland on 23/12/1866 and was married at Dover register office on 21/5/1887. Her father was Henry Light and retired from the royal navy . Her husband Daniel was a corporal in the army and was born in Laughton sussex in 1863. They went to India with the army and had 9 children.

My ancestor, Thomas CHALKLEY, his wife Martha and daughter Ann(e) moved to 10 Russell Place, Dover from Hertfordshire. He was a labourer grocer on the 1861 Census. By 1881, the parents (and probably daughters Ann(e)and later Eliza) had moved back to Herts.(Flamstead). Is anyone researching this family or can anyone tell me anything about Russell Place? Does it still exist?

Anyone please who can help with decendants of Charles Steven Harris who ran a photographic studio at 77 London Road, Dover, Kent. He died on 13 Oct 1938 aged 72. He had a son, Cecil George Harris born around 1898 at Dover - no other details known.

How can I find out if my g-g-g-grandparents JOHN and DEBOROUGH BOGG were married in Dover? Their two sons were born on the Isle of Sheppey in 1806 and 1809 but no sign of their marriage. Is there anyone there related to Nicholas Glanville Bogg born 29/6/1946 at Thanet with Dover, Kent? Died in America 2001. Glanville or Glenville are family Christian names!

Samuel James Woodhead born 1810 East Retford Notts? Brother born 1812. Samuel J.W. married Ann Cheetham but no origins for her and no marriage details. 1st Son Samuel James junior (but was it their first child? was born Dover 1841. 1841 & 1851 Census Recs. for Dover drew a blank. No siblings found for S.J.W. junior. At his marriage 1870 Portsea Island to Harriet Bagshaw born Pembroke Dock c1853, daughter of Samuel a Shoemaker & ? he was in the Army at Portsmouth. Their 1st child, Samuel James again, born 1872 Pembroke Dock. Subsequent children (9 total) born Canterbury, Chatham, Elham & Shorncliffe, Kent. At the 1881 Census he was in Canterbury and with the East Kent Militia. By the 1891 Census he was a Dealer in Meat in Wood Green, Middlesex & rest of children born there. In 1901 he and remaining children still at home were in Pembroke Dock again & he was Caretaker of St. Catherine's Fort. No death found for anyone from this family. Ut seems that their Son Samuel James born Pembroke Dock 1872 married a Christiana Hitchens born Islington, and they set up home in Streatham. First child, Samuel James (of course), died. Second child was Christiana May but she did not appear on the 1901 Census. Any subsequent children not traced. Other 8 of Samuel James W.& Harriet nee Bagshaw were: - Some years are approx. 1875 Chatham - Harriet Emily, 1876 Shorncliffe - Edward Charles, 1880 Canterbury - George Frederick, 1882 Canterbury - William, 1883 Wood Green - Ellen Augusta (my Grandmother,) 1885 Wood Green - Florence, 1889 Wood Green - John Sidney, 1891 Wood Green - Cecil Cuswick.

Is anybody doing research into the Charlton area of Dover, Kent. I am particularly interested in the period 1850-1880 but because I live abroad it is difficult to do the leg work. Also does anyone have information of the Cannon family of Charlton, Dover who subsequently moved to Mile End (East London) c1890. Sarah Spicer married a Mr. Eckstrom apparently in the 1920's. She could have met hime whilst living at Dover, but was not married when family moved to Chislehurst in 1890. Not been able to find marriage in G.R.O. indexes or overseas at F.R.C. In fact I have not found the surname anywhere at all. She was mentioned thus in her sister's 1939 will, and was then living in Chislehurst. Any help appreciated.
