red mail HITCHCOCK/WHITMAN/PITTOCK
Henry (born c1792 Dedham, Essex) and Sarah (born c1795 in Deal)(maiden name unknown) HITCHCOCK, had a daughter Elizabeth Jane, born circa, 1820, somewhere in Kent. Henry gave his occupation as an ARTIST. Elizabeth Jane had a son Edward Whitman (This is a forename) in 1847, in Canterbury, out of wedlock. The family were living at 62 Broad Street. In 1876 Edward married Fanny Jane BRIENT who gave her age as 30, so born about 1846. She states in two censuses that she was born in Canterbury, but I cannot find any trace of this birth anywhere. Fanny gave her fathers name as James BRIENT (deceased) on marriage cert. Edward and Fanny were married in St Mary's Church, Northgate, Canterbury 6/8/1876. They had four children, Edward, Mable, Millie and Julia. Millie died before her first birthday. In the 1890's the family moved to Deal where Edward Whitman HITCHCOCK died in 1897. Fanny and the children then changed the family surname to WHITMAN and the three remaining children all married using that surname in Deal. In 1904 they were living in College Road, Deal. Edward married Rebecca Taylor PITTOCK in Deal 1904. They had seven sons all born in Deal. Sometime prior to WW11 they moved to Hampshire, where all the sons married. Mable married James O'NEIL in Deal 1910. Julia married Arther IRELAND in Deal 1912. Were there any children from these two marriages? Fanny Jane was still alive in 1904, but I cannot find any trace of her death, either as HITCHCOCK or WHITMAN. Any connections or information would be greatly appreciated.
