Finbar Lyons & Mary Kennedy
Looking for information on the bare-knuckle boxer, Finbar Lyons, who was born in the Dartford area in 1944. He had 3 children with Mary Kennedy, but they were not married. She had left a husband in Ireland whom she had married very young. Finbar and Mary's children were Jacqueline, Barry and Sean. It is believed that Finbar died in a house fire when the children were little, but I cannot find a reference for the death. I believe Finbar had a brother, John, born in 1942, also in the Dartford area.

Looking for any info on George Edgar Varvell, my husband's gg grandfather, who moved to Dartford early 1890s. He and wife Ellen had 8 children between 1888 and 1906. He was a coffee house manager at 37 High Street Dartford for many years, then from 1911 approx at the Black Boy, 26 High Street, Dartford at least until 1938. Does anyone remember him or the family by any chance? Quite a character by all accounts. I know the pub was demolished in 1966. She was born Louisa BROWN, ?London, married William Thomas MILLS in 1895 at the new Surrey Methodist Chapel, St Saviour, London; and apparently she abandoned her family sometime after the birth of my grandmother Emily May MILLS in 1900. I'm trying to find information on any of these people: Robert Thornton Dockray born 1798 in Dartford (he was a market gardener), Marianne Lake (his wife) born about 1803 in Wimbledon. They had a large family of children but I don't know how many or any of their names except the eldest two, Marianne Lake Dockray (after her mother) and William Dockray (after his paternal grandfather). William Dockray was Robert's father and lived and worked with them at the market garden. He was born between 1775 and 1778. I have a William Dockray born March 4 1777 in Holbeck but I'm not sure if it's the same man or not. If it was him, his father was John Dockray and I would be wondering why he ended up in Dartford which isn't exactly close to Holbeck. Any helpful ideas would be most appreciated.

was my great aunt. married dartford/woolwich (husbands name unknown - date unknown) had daughter Vera. Went to Canada - would love to hear from relatives there. Update: July 06. Now know Jessie married a Charles Harding before the family emigrated. At the time Jessie and Charles had one child Vera who was very small when they went. This was in the 1920s and I know they had one other Son at least. They arrived off the Doric. Would be very pleased to hear from ANYONE related or otherwise.

Looking for information or relatives of John Winter Hill and Lillian Ruth French who married in Dartford in 1899. My grandfather told my father that they lived in Gillingham. John and Lillian's only child John Winter II was born in December 1900 in Dartford. Lillian either died in England or on the ship to Australia in the early 1900's of Salmonella poisoning. Her death seems to be recorded nowhere. In Australia John Winter Hill I & II lived next door to Lillian's elder sister Lucy Jane Jacob (nee French) and her husband Hamer Jacob who had emigrated in the late 1880's or very early 1890's - their son Leonard was born in Australia in 1891. Lillian and Lucy's father was Jacob Josiah French and their mother was Sarah French.

William CARTER b. Dorset and his wife Sarah (RICHARDSON) returned to England from Australia in 1870 with children George Henry, Arthur William and Maud Equator. They lived first at 15 Orchard St then 27a Spital St Dartford. William worked as an upholsterer. Henry Richardson, William Godfrey, Bertie Campbell, Sarah Elizabeth, Alice Letitia and Ernest were born between 1872 and 1883. In 1883 George came back to Brisbane and in 1889 the rest of the family, minus Arthur, followed. William Godfrey, a watchmaker, returned to Dartford sometime before the 1901 census when he was living at 42 Spital St. as a boarder. Later that year he married Marian Elizabeth PERKINS and they had two children Ronald and Marian before leaving for Australia in 1914. Does anyone have any more details of these families whilst they were living in Dartford?
