red mail Richard and Theodosia GILBERT
I am interested in locating anyone who may have information about descendants of the family of Richard Gilbert who came from Biddenden and was born around 1824. He married Theodosia (I don't know her maiden name) in the mid-1840's. She already had a son, William, (my great grandfather) who was born in 1841, but he retained what I assume must have been his father's surname of Bishop. William had two siblings; Susanna Gilbert (b1846) and Mary Ann Gilbert (b1848). The family may have been part of the travelling community. They lived variously in Rye and Beckley in Sussex, as well as Burham and Marden in Kent. My great grandfather became a travelling showman and was later married to Caroline (maiden name unknown) who was from Stepney. The family continued to move around N.W. Kent and later in the S.E. of London (Deptford, Greenwich). Any information gratefully received!
red mail Robert Carter POPE c1809
Can anyone help me find the family of this man? He states Biddenden as his place of birth on census returns. He married Catherine Clinch of Northfleet in 1840. He was a miller by profession, and was working in West Thurrock, Essex before marriage and returned there after marriage. He and Catherine had six children, the last two of which were born in Frindsbury Kent. I have only managed to trace one of those children. I suspect that the Carter part of his name may have been his mother's maiden name. Does anyone have Carters or Popes in their tree in Biddenden at this time? Any help appreciated.
