red mail Wards of Ellington - (Ellington - Huntingdonshire)
I am looking for details of an Elizabeth Ward, born in Ellington 1755. I believe that she is an ancestor of my husband Steven Lane. Elizabeth is the grandmother of William Ward Asplen born Willingham 1818. The name Ward skipped a generation, and seems to have been important to the Ward Asplens. William Ward Asplen, a farmer, appeared as a big land owner in Cambridgeshire. In one transaction, the name asplen was in lower case letters. Also in one transaction involving manorial rights in Cherry Hinton, 1864, there are 2 records, one of which refers to William Ward, and the Ward family! I find this very intriguing. I have found only one other contempory (with Elizabeth) Ward born in Ellington. This was by tracing back another farmer,(110 acres), in fact the only other farmer named Ward in Cambs. in 1881, that I could find. Is this a coincidence? With thanks to the Woodhursts.

red mail The Prestons Of Pidley - (Pidley - Huntingdonshire)
My grandparents were married in the Pidley area about 1900. My grandmother was born Rosemary Woods and my grandfather was Walter Preston. My father was born in Pidley Fen January 25, 1906 and was named Reginald Leslie (or perhaps Leslie Reginald). That same year he emigrated with his parents and older brothers to Canada. He was 6 months of age and throughout his life joked that he was the only one in the family who kept his breakfast down on the long ship ride over! I travelled through Pidleyin 1989 only long enough to take a picture of the village sign, but I did stop and look in a local telephone book for Prestons in the Pidley area. There seemed to be quite a few. Looking forward to hearing from family... Gay Douglas
