I am looking for William Nield - born approx. 1874. He married Kate Eilza Childs and went on to have children; Olive, Reginald, Edward, William and Victor. Olive married a Rands and I am a descendent of that line. Any info on Nield or Rands would be gratefully received. William Nield was in WW1 and served in Mesoptania (Basra). I can't find any confirmed record of him before his marriage. I believe the Nield family lived in tyttenhager, but think William Nield may have also lived in Smallford and/or Colney Heath.

I have a medal given in 1930 to the winner of a Haldane Cup with my grandfathers name A J Vines inscribed on the back. He lived in St. Margarets and worked as a shoe repairer in Wiltshires shop in the High Street. Can anyone me any information on this medal please.

I am looking for any info on the Allen and Swain family, particulary ancestors of William Allen born 1849 in St Pauls Walden and his wife Matilda Swain, born 1851 also from St Pauls Walden. Her father George Swain, born 1808 came from Luton and hermother Eliza Croft born 1817 in Hitchin, they married in St Pauls Walden and lived at Church End, where he was a farm Labourer. Trying to findout anout my ansectors who lived at Stanstead 1871 till at least 1875. John Marsh born Mappowder, Dorset appears here on the 1871 census with his wife Mary and son William born 1861. John's wife, Mary Bullen Marsh died at Stanstead on July 10th 1875 age 45. Her husband John was a coachman. Caroline THAKE was present at the death. I have been unable to find John MARSH on the 1881 census ao I wonder if he has died. They may have had other children.

Hi, I'm looking for the birth of Ann Flack, about 1750, There are plenty of Flacks in Thorley but I have not yet found her baptism. Possibly non-conformist. she married John Wright in 1775. She had several children one of which was Robert Flack Wright, baptisms in Bishops Stortford. Possibly living in Essex or Hertfordshire. Any help would be much appreciated.

I am looking for the birth around 1775 of Mary Woodward, daughter of William Woodward, farmer (probably born around 1750) and probably in Harlow but could be over the border in Bishops Stortford, Thorley or Hertford. Has anyone any information about this family? She had a daughter Hannah Draper with Thomas Draper, a carpenter, in Harlow in 1814. They were probably non-conformists. Are there any Woodward wills mentioning these people. Help much appreciated.

Village near Hitchin - (Walsworth - Hertfordshire)
Walsworth is a small village north east of Hitchin, which has now been incorporated into the town. The River Purwell runs through it. I also wonder if it had a mill, as my ancestor, a journeyman miller, lived in this parish.

Westwick - (Westwick Row - Hertfordshire)
Westwick Row was the principle lane or street of the manor of WEstwick. The surrounding area eventually became known as Leverstock Green. See entries for Leverstock Green. One of the oldest continuously lived in houses is to be found along WestwickRow, having been dated by dendrochronology to the late 12th early 13th century. It was important all through teh middle ages and beyond, so if your family came from there I may be able to help shed a bitmore light on them.

Allen family of Whitwell, Herts. - (Whitwell - Hertfordshire)
My great great grandfather was Robert Allen, born Luton in 1784, died in Whitwell in 1869, and was buried in All Saints Church, St Paul's Walden . In 1810 he married Martha Deacon in St. Paul's Walden. In 1819 he married Ann Deacon in St. Paul's Walden. They had children: George, 1818, James Lawrence 1822, Charles 1824, Harriet 1826, Thomas 1828, Henry 1830, Daniel 1833, Frederick 1836. My great grandfather Daniel Allen, migrated to Australia in the 1850s, married an Elizabeth Fogarty in Sydney in 1862 (died 1875)(further marriages) and lived in Fortitude Valley Brisbane, till his death in 1909. His brothers appeared to have remained in England: Charles married Frances (Fanny) Saunders in 1848, Thomas Allen married Sarah Tufnell in 1854, Henry Allen married a Charlotte.

My father's family lived in and around Willian from at least 1781, although there was a brief sojourn in Stotfold, Bedfordshire, for a marriage in 1786 and the birth of two daughters who were christened in 1789. Historically they were agricultural labourers and only one male married in the village of origin. Consequently, the family spread out to the surrounding villages and towns particularly Hitchin, Graveley, and Great Wymondley. I know there are still Minnis's living in the area today and would love to hear from them. The name can be spelt with one or two 'n's or 's's.
