I have traced James Young back to 1762/65 born in either Hatfield or hertingfordbury. He married Alice Ansel 4th October 1791. So far I've hit a brick wall andI cannot trace his father, although there is a Robert Young, married to Deborah Smith who lived at Holwells Farm Bishop's Hatfield. James and Alice had several children including my 4 Greatgrandfather John Young born in Hatfield 1793 and married to Hannah Currall. His son James Young, born 1822/23 moved to St. Pancras. I think I have tracked James through the censuses (though he gives his birthplace as Hatfield), but I can't find Edward. Trying to discover information on the Buxton Family who lived in Hunsdon. I know that John H Buxton was a Brewer, who kept a fairly substantial household. in 1881 he had 9 servants, including a butler, groom and footman! I know my great grandmother, Annie, was employed by him. My cousin has a clock presented to great gran. the inscription bears J H's name and Annie's length of service. On census returns Annie is living at the Lodge Hunsdon. I believe that the Buxton's lived at Bury House Hunsdon. Does anyone know where that was? Thanks

I'm researching my maternal ancestors, the Fosters and Barbers, who came from the Ickleford/Little Wymondley/Hitchin area. John Foster (Farmer, b 1832 married Agnes Barber , a dressmaker, b 1847). I'm interested in any descendants of his son, John Foster born Ickleford 1882. He had two sisters, Agnes Dorothy (my grandmother) and Maggie who was a teacher and died tragically. There was also an older half-sister, Elizabeth, who died in childhood. The family lived at 1 Bunyan Villas, Ickleford. Alfred Dumpleton married Emma Hucklesby at the Parish Church, Sundon, and then lived at Kensworth. We have traced the Dumpleton family back to circa 1705 but, apart from knowing that Joseph Hucklesby was Emma's father, we have little else to go on with the Hucklesby name apart from the witnesses who signed the marriage register: James and Sophia Hucklesby. Help with the Hucklesby line would be much appreciated.

George Cheffins (Chiffins?) Aldridge b:1828, St Albans. In the 1851 Census George Cheffins Aldridge is living with his father Joseph (b: 1798 Amwell) and brother Charles C. (b: 1829) at St Germans Farm, St Michaels, St Albans. The 1861 Census shows him married and farming at Woodside Farm a 25 acre farm in Leavesden, Watford, where he remained and brought up his family. His wife Emma Barker (Payne) Children: Emma b: 1855, St Albans; Harriet b: 1857, St Albans; Alice b: 1860, Watford; George b: b: 1863, Watford; Frederick b: 1866, Watford; Joseph b: 1868, Watford; Richard (my G Grandfather) b: 1870, Watford; Thomas b: 1864, Watford. On 25th Dec 1891 Richard married Jane Georgina Surridge (b: 1867, Highgate Middlesex) the marriage certificate gives her fathers name as Job Surridge. The first trace of her I have is her marriage certificate and anything that would shed light on her previous existence would be appreciated. Anyone who thinks their relatives may have come from Leverstock Green Hertforshire is welcome to ask me if I have any relevanat information on their families. Having spent 9+ years studying the history of Leverstock Green, published a pictorial history book "The Archive Photograph Series: Leverstock Green & Bennetts End" and also compiled "The Leverstock Green Chronicle", much of which is now posted on the web, I have very detailed information on which to draw. It is also worth remembering that prior to 1850, the area of Leverstock Green was divided between 3 parishes: Hemel Hempstead, St. Michaels ( St. Albans) and Abbots LAngley, so if you have family from any of these three parishes they may also be from LeverstockGreen. Additionaly much of the area was previously the ancient manor of Westwick (spanning all 3 parishes).

John of Gaddesden priest & physician ca 1280-1360 born here wrote the first printed medical book in the English language in 1492, entitled "Rosa Medicinae". In the village, the house (not open to the public) which bears his name dates from a later period though there may possibly have been an earlier building on the same site. John was acquainted with Chaucer and is mentioned in the latter's Prologue to the Canterbury Tales. The surname is associated with the River Gade in Hertfordshire.

I was born in Little Gaddesden in an army hospital in the grounds of the Bonar Law College but had no real connection with the area. I was astonished to discover that my 3X great grandfather, Charles Thomas was born in Little Gaddesden in 1813. His father Isaac Thomas came from Somerset and his mother,Sarah Elburn, was born in Marylebone. Isaac and Sarah must have been the village for at least the period 1813- 1821 and in addition to Charles the following were born in Little Gaddesden:-James in 1814.
